Not sure if I am the best person to review this book. For one thing it is obviously aimed at a US audience, so that rules me out first off. There is also the fact that it takes a very black and white approach, the Republicans are evil, the Democrats good. Now for all I know that may be the case, but I'd prefer to be convinced rather than have the author assume I agree. I also think there are a hell of a lot of shades of grey
Maybe the title should have alerted me, but although I expected a somewhat irreverant approach, I felt that the tone this book was written in did it absolutely no favours. It is a problem I have also noted in Michael Moore’s book Stupid White Men. Jokes and sarcastic statements are wonderful tools, I&'m always in favour of a bit of irony, but authors must be careful when using it throughout a book. It doesn';t work as well as it does on film or in a speech.
Well, [author:Al Franken] is certainly biased, but way more importantly, he's funny. Very funny. And he gets what so many people who write books about current politics don't get: you're not going to change anyone's mind, because no one who disagrees with you is going to buy your book, and it will be outdated soon enough. So you might as well give everyone who is reading your book a laugh, and try not to take yourself so seriously.
Ann Coulter, I am looking at you.
Not his best book, but still funny.

This book made me crazy. Like I know the basics, but I was in my 20s & early 30s so I wasn’t paying a lot of attention. But the detailed facts made me furious. Luckily it was comically delivered or it could have been worse.

There were a couple moments where I cringed, but, overall, this was a very funny book with some incredibly interesting insights. A lot of what he says here, despite being about Bush, is very relevant to what is happening today and at least gives me some perspective that not EVERYTHING happening right now is as new and crazy as it feels.
