This was a great story of women suffrage in England interlaced with some romance. I really enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more from this author

4.25. I enjoyed this one, I’m glad I decided to pick it up!

For the most part I found this book sweet and sexy, but I was also... bored for the majority of it. I think historical romance is just too slow for me. But it was a good 1 time read!

One of the reasons why I love this genre is how quickly I'm usually drawn into the world and characters and how little it takes for me to not want to put the book down. But this one took a while to grab my interest. I liked all of it in theory, but the specific writing (and possibly narration) style made it hard for me to focus or want to keep reading. I'd also had this on my TBR for over 2 years and had heard so many positive recommendations of it that it had me asking "what's so great about this?" and worrying that my hopes going into it were too high. The first third was pretty boring, but by the time the MMC and FMC were becoming more interested in each other, it occurred to me that the seemingly boring build up really made their dynamic feel more full, justified, and well written. I found it really refreshing that Annabelle wasn't a virgin and I kept being surprised by things like
Annabelle going to prison. The romance kept surprising me too. Like I was surprised that Sebastian didn't reverse his classist insistence that Annabelle "expects too much" after they slept together and he said he loved her.
Overall, I thought it was very well written and loved the obvious effort put into historical accuracy. But I found I missed the more conventional elements of this genre and it wasn't personally as much of my cup of tea as it could have been. I will continue the series though (I'm especially looking forward to Hattie's book because I love disability rep, especially neurodivergently coded characters)
