Once again bestie Octavia has given me a freaky little banger. I feel like this series is about what Earthseed fully realized and embodied by a species looks like. God is change baby.

Adulthood Rites follows Akin, Lilith's construct son. This took me right back to the world of the Oankali and its murky issues of colonialism, consent and interference. Butler is one of the few authors who can write convincingly alien aliens.

Extremely dark in its own way, building well on the world established in the first book. While immediate threats never feel as dangerous as they could, there is a creeping horror to the entire scenario that grows more and more intense with no simple solution in sight.
