I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first book, but it was still very good. I’m excited to see how this series concludes.

- octavia butler's writing is very engaging and i will read all her books probably
- i love that her style is simple yet purposeful. her long explanations of sci fi concepts are never boring and the writing feels well paced even when you would expect the content to feel slow.
- and the concepts are great
- tbh i would befriend the aliens they seem really nice. but also go to mars
- kinda crazy the urgency in which people pair up and try to reproduce. personally i would not feel that to be my responsibility idgaf
- like i would not feel hopeless and purposeless in their situation. i would feel like i'm playing minecraft. i could survive a post apocalypse because i don't want a real job i just want to farm ! let me barter !

-Answers a lot of the questions I had after the first book. More great world-building and it made sense how the story continued within that particular world

Really powerful. Among the many issues this novel makes me ponder are the virtues of fearing vs. craving difference (part II, chapter 4), and the cruelties we inflict on each other out of fear.
Took me longer to get through than the first in the series, mostly because it goes a little deeper into the philosophical. Still a brilliant novel, mind-blowingly different than most of my reading to date.
