I liked this book a lot more than the first. I think the time skip was a bold but necessary choice. And I found Akin to be a way more compelling character than Lilith. This series doesn’t hit the narrative highs I really look for in a 5 star book. But I don’t think Butler was trying to hit them. She’s telling a story I think only she could… and it’s definitely worth the read!

I really enjoyed book l and this one built on it nicely and produced an even more interesting story. Octavia Butler has yet to let me down and I'm looking forward to the next book.

I really enjoy Octavia butler’s work although I feel like much of it is made to make you question and be uncomfortable. I did find myself not totally believing the hopelessness that comes from no one being able to have children.
