The Last Bear is a book full of a strong little girl's adventures, her love for the outdoors and most importantly her love for animals. Environmentalism is wrapped up into the story, showing us that we need to be better stewards to the planet and that our actions affect each generation.

" 'You want me to save every polar bear I see?'
'No,' April said. 'Just this one.
'You think I don't wish to save the Arctic too?' the captain said in exasperation. 'But it needs more than a little girl rescuing one polar bear.'
'I agree,' said April. But imagine if every single person on the planet did just one thing.'
'Then it is still not enough.'
'But it's better than doing nothing.' "

"The truth is, I'm scared. I'm not nearly as brave as you. I could never have been here alone all those years like you have. But it's better than doing nothing and, as you know, human beings are very good at doing nothing. I don't want to be that kind of person anymore."

This is a must read for everyone! It's officially a children's book, but the lessons in this book are relevant for everyone. Especially now. The climate crisis is real and it's coming fast and we most act NOW to prevent catastrophic damage. This story greatly captures what will happen if we don't act now and this is only such a small part of the whole climate crisis.

This story is so beautifully written. April is so sweet. She cares a lot about animals and the planet and I recognised myself. I feel so sad for the damaged relationship she has with her father. I understand where the father is coming from. He is in a lot of pain. Luckily, the end of the book shows us that repair of the relationship is coming and hopefully April and her father get a healthy relationship. Let's talk about my favourite character: Bear. Oh boy, he is such a smol bean. I absolutely love and adore Bear. He is so sweet, cute, caring and funny. I love that Bear represents all polar bears, but that the story also delves deeper into Bear's personal story. The relationship between April and Bear is also greatly developed and it is just wholesome. The adventures they have together, the emotions and stories they tell each other and the most important one, the love they share. This book is everything I wish it would be and I would recommend it to everyone. I hope Bear will capture your heart, like he did with mine ❤️

Still as fascinated with polar bears as I was as a kid, I had to borrow this from the library when I spotted the beautiful cover. My younger self would have ate it up, and my current self still very much appreciated the story, the message and the beautiful artwork inside. It opened with the following dedication: "To my parents, the planet and polar bears everywhere." My heart. I don't know if I would revisit this particular story, but again, it moved and inspired me, even as an adult.

I love this book about a girl on an adventure! What a beautiful setting! Highly recommend this to people who like strong females as the lead character.
