While the direction the book took surprised me in the end it ended up being an okay tale.
Basically people who are in trouble and need to disappear are given the option to do so by way of plastic surgery and a body double, but the service while thorough has a deadly catch, one that makes the whole process not worth the money or pain it takes to go through.

A forensic pathologist forced to lie about an autopsy becomes the unwilling recipient of this "gift" and from there finds himself a pawn in a network of corruption, unethical human experimentation, murder and an Illuminati-like world order.
Honestly, aside from human experimentation and exploitation, I don't see how this service would be beneficial to the recipients unless the Corry and Micheal treatment is only reserved for certain people.

One thing I found annoying was the female characters, all of them promiscuous, all of them draped in skimpy outfits. It truly felt like the author decided since he would have a few female leads he may as well throw in some cheap thrills while he was at it. Corry is constantly kissing, touching and parading naked around random men,
she even reacts to seeing Nick after they return to New York by randomly kissing him...a hello would have sufficed surely
.
Even, Kristin, who is just as evil as the other characters serves skin. She sleeps with everyone, is always naked or almost that and aside from showing jealousy towards Maia's body, has the emotional depth of a puddle, a puddle of acid but still.

I also found the descriptions of minority groups in this uncomfortable, all minorities are either poor or involved in petty crime. There is a marked difference between how he describes them and how he describes minor European characters.

Overall, the story was enjoyable enough. The surgical procedures impossible even now, but that can be overlooked, as can the outdated computer information used.

3/5 - not a bad story.
