The Third Baseman

Lulu Moore

3.8 AVERAGE

"The Third Baseman" by Lulu Moore is a second-chance romance that hits all the right notes for fans of love lost and found. The story follows Jupiter Reeves, the surly, tattooed, and undeniably talented third baseman, who’s more than just the bad boy of baseball—he’s a man on a mission to win back the heart of his high school sweetheart, Marnie Matthews. After being traded to the New York Lions, Jupiter is determined not just to secure the Commissioner's Trophy but also to convince Marnie to give him another shot.

Jupiter is the kind of moody, cocky, yet utterly swoon-worthy hero that makes your heart skip a beat. His tattoos tell the story of his love for Marnie, and despite the tough exterior, it’s clear that she’s the one who makes him melt. But Jupiter’s got his work cut out for him—Marnie is no pushover. She’s a rocket scientist (yes, really!) who’s smart, independent, and not about to let the man who broke her heart just waltz back into her life without a fight. Watching Jupiter go all out to win her back, in an adorably obsessed yet determined way, is both heartwarming and a little bit unhinged—in the best possible way.

I loved every moment of this book. It’s super sweet with just the right amount of angst, and Jupiter’s attempts to melt Marnie’s heart kept me smiling throughout. The flashbacks to their high school days added depth to their love story, making their reunion even more satisfying. The side characters also bring a lot of charm, adding to the story’s warmth and making you root even harder for Jupiter and Marnie’s happily ever after. Their bond is special, and despite all the obstacles, you just know they’re destined to be endgame.

If you’re into second-chance romances with a swoon-worthy sports hero, a brilliant heroine who makes him work for it, and a love story that spans years, "The Third Baseman" is a must-read. The chemistry between Jupiter and Marnie is electric, the flashbacks tug at your heartstrings, and the whole book will leave you grinning from ear to ear.

I love sports romance and this did not disappoint. The story, the spice, the characters are great. I felt for Marnie in the prologue and throughout the book and I think many could relate to her. Overall would definitely recommend this book.

4.5!!! this was so cute and i eat up the “guy breaks up w girl bc he doesn’t want her to throw her life away for him” trope bc it never fails me!! i love second chances!!!!

Time jumps back and forth.

Jupiter Reeves and Marnie Matthews were so very much in love, until one day - the day that Jupiter was drafted to the Dodgers - he broke up with her, leaving her heartbroken. 14 years later, Marnie has accepted a job working for the baseball team which Jupiter is the third baseman for. And he is determined that he's going to win back the love of his life.

Their love story was so well written, the occasional flashback to what happened 14 years before really helped fill in those blanks about their relationship, and how heartbroken they both were over what happened. I liked the fact that Marnie didn't spend that time pining for Jupiter, but got on with her life after what happened (may have taken a short while, but she did). The grovelling was perfectly done, and that backing off might be the better option, but when I got to lines like this - "I’m not dead, Marn. I’m alive and kicking, and I live for loving you." - my heart just melted.

I know that Ace's book is next, and I'm looking forward to what his story holds.

I absolutely loved this book and Jupiter - one of the best book boyfriends ever.

This second chance - childhood friends to lovers captured my heart and made me fall back into the world of sports romance.

I adored the angst of this one and Jupiter going all out to win his girl. He’s such a special character and this is a book I will re-read over and over again.

The lengths Jupiter goes to win back Marnie makes your heart sing and your toes tingle. The look back
At their lives when they were much younger gave such a feeling of first love and living for the moment with each other.

Marnie is a clever and such a beautiful character and is a role model for how strong women should be. Something about this book touched my heart, I can’t quite put into words how much I enjoyed this book and it’s one of my favourites this year.

Delectable, wonderful and for me nostalgic and perfect
