If Leigh Bardugo does one thing well, it’s characters. I find her characters usually remarkably endearing and fun, and the characters in this book were no exception… for the most part. I will say a few members of the cast of this book didn’t stand out the way all her other characters do, but some were still great. I particularly love Darlington, even though he’s not in the books a lot he’s such a huge part of them, and Alex herself is interesting enough. Also Mercy, I like Mercy.

As for the plot, it’s good, it’s interesting, it’s just not a standout for me. Definitely more fantasy focused than the last book, which I liked, but I won’t say I was particularly enthralled.

When it comes to dark academia especially, I think this series overall will please dark academia fans, but if you aren’t already a fan of the genre, I doubt this will convert you.

This was better than the first book I felt like the pace moved along more. Going to Hell was fantastic. Darlington as a demon was so hot that was great. Alex and Dawes really came into their own here. Really loved that Tripp got added into the mix as well. The ending just wasn’t as clean as it should have been that’s why it didn’t make 4 stars.

WOW I could not put this one down! Gripping. I love Leigh Bardugo.

Leigh Bardugo, you’re a magical woman. And Darlington, you were greatly missed. I am not a fantasy fan, or even a magical realism fan. But something about Leigh Bardugo’s work breaks those walls down for me. From the Grishaverse to Alex Stern, I fully live in her fiction and believe every second of it.
