A well-told page-turner. Picked this up with the plan to read before "The Cartel," and tore through it. Sure, some of the writing is creaky as hell, but it's a fun potboiler. And, while some of the plot elements seemed totally contrived, I was amazed to find out how much is really inspired by true events.

Ken Follet with drugs. The most enjoyable read I've had in a long, long time

I picked this up after watching the "Sicario" movies written by Taylor Sheridan. It's obvious those movies are a direct descendant of this excellent novel. The story traces the War on Drugs from it's inception through the current era. An extremely detailed story involving New York mob families, Latin American cartels, the CIA and the DEA. Lots of moving parts rolled into a huge book that reads like Tom Clancy himself could have written it.
