We know Schleiermacher for his ideas about faith and feelings, but he was the key figure in the development of what has become modern, historical/scientific study of theology. Here is an updated translation of his Brief Outline, together with a helpful Editor's Postscript. Won't be for everyone, but if you're interested in how theology developed in the modern age then this is an important read!

"True piety and sound learning" is an old Church of England maxim, but I've never seen it more thoroughly worked out as a plan of practice than here.
