Highly recommend.

I LOVED this book. I am going to put it out there and say that this is probably my favourite Tim Keller book.
This is a topic that is often not treated well in Christian circles (in my opinion) and Keller even discusses this at the start of the book, but through 350 odd pages, Keller unpacks suffering, why it happens in this world and theologically outlines how we can deal with it/in fact why we need to strengthen our faith.
I found this book so wise and well thought out. I underlined a lot and want to go back and explore and unpack a lot of what Keller says.
The way the book is laid out is excellent as well, Keller starts with the 'theory' of suffering, going through a variety of cultures and how they deal with suffering, then moves onto the theology of suffering and why it happens and finally on how to deal with suffering as a Christian, ultimately focusing on the hope we have of a new earth.
I honestly can't speak highly enough of this book. It has helped me put into perspective suffering I have undertaken and it will be one that I will return to again and again.

This is a fantastic book to better understand suffering and God's place/purposes in this often screwed up world. Keller presents both theological/philosophical underpinnings of suffering as well as practical ways to deal with suffering in our own lives. I highly recommend this book for anyone in preparation for future pain, in reflection on past pain, or anyone currently undergoing trials and tribulations, although I think those in the latter two categories would probably get more out of it having a bit more context for what Keller is talking about.
