Guards! Guards!

Early in my Pratchett reading and entertaining once I comprehended the voice. My only real ongoing problem with the author is the lack of chapter breaks. Makes it REALLY difficult to stop reading...just a few more pages, THEN I'll stop.

I enjoyed this book - after being very disappointed by "The Color of Magic," the first Discworld book. Many people online suggest that the beginning of the Discworld series is not so good, and "Guards! Guards!" is a good place to start - I have to say that I found this book much better. Pratchett displays great wit and humor in this book which I enjoyed, and if that's what you're searching for this book is a perfect choice for you. I found the plot a touch thin and particularly lacking in deeper emotional or societal commentary, which is why I give this four stars instead of five. I admit though this is a matter of personal preference.
