Highly enjoyable, exactly what you would expect from a Kate Mosse novel: a solid historical fiction with strong female characters, a page-turning adventure, and a touch of romance (LGBTQ+ this time!).

The only thing that really took me out of the story is the butchered dutch pronunciation in the audiobook... And then I learned from the acknowledgements there was actually a Dutch speaker advising on this!

I really enjoyed the first 2 books in this series and was unfortunately a little underwhelmed by this one.

I think the creative liberties taken with the plot stretched it a little too far outside what I could imagine being possible, and being considered historical fiction, and not just wild fantasy. That being said, I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for the next book on the series to see how it all ends.

Loved this book. I read the first two in the series and was excited to see what came next.

I will say that you don't have to read the other books to get this story BUT I still recommend those, too.

Historical fiction, France, Amsterdam, representatives from the Spanish Inquisition, Pirates, torture for information, etc....EVERYTHING IS GREAT IN THIS!!
