Won this book in a give away on Goodreads and so glad I did. Fell in love with not only the people but also the town that the author managed to create. Highly recommend this book.
Excellent book. I liked Jade a lot. I loved the way she ran the office, and Dell, with amazing efficiency. She used that efficiency to keep control of her life and surroundings, to compensate for the one time she wasn't in control. I loved Dell and the way he was so good with the animals. I also loved the way he treated Jade, taking care of her. It was great that he was so interested in her and what made her tick. He also did a great job of teaching her self-defense, so that she would be able to protect herself. He didn't seem to realize that he was letting her get closer than he had ever let anyone get before, and wouldn't admit it when he was called on it. Jade was also very good at keeping people at a distance, and finally started to let go near the end of her time there. I loved seeing how good they were together, and to each other. I sure hope we get Adam's story soon!

"Sunshine, Idaho, is a quiet ranching town that provides a perfect refuge for injured animals . . .
and sometimes, people.
And veterinarian Dell Connelly suspects there's a reason his clinic's uberefficient receptionist has taken shelter here.
Jade Bennett couldn't be happier to escape her well-meaning but smothering family and their expectations, not to mention the big-city jungle.
There's nothing like working with animals, having a forlorn, grumpy stray kitten make its home under her desk . . . or enjoying the gorgeous views of her ruggedly sexy boss to help her forget her past. But Dell's seductive, alluring ways have sparked an uncontrollable desire, one Jade hadn't expected to feel again.
And though Dell has never had time for love, Jade's strength and sass is the kind of call no red-blooded male can resist." (From Amazon)
My favourite novel of the series - Dell is sweet and kind and a ladies man but only one lady makes him crazy - strong and sassy Jade. I love the characters and their backstory and romance are great.

Animal Attraction
3.5 Stars
The basic plot thread is virtually identical to Animal Magnetism only this time it is Jade who is leaving rather than Brady.
While Jade and Dell have steamy chemistry, the snarky sarcasm and witty banter that characterized their relationship in book #1 is disappointingly missing. Dell is sexy, patient and caring but his womanizing is somewhat of a turn off and his background could have been better developed (perhaps we will get more of this in Adam's book).
Jade is an amalgamation of opposites. On the one hand, she seems strong willed and self-confident but this turns out to be a facade. Yes, her mysterious past is traumatic but she has a tendency to come across over overly weak and needy, and she takes too long to stand up for herself both with Dell and her family.
The Belle Haven animals, Peanut the sex obsessed parrot, Gertie the slobbering St. Bernard and Beans the gun-shy kitten, totally upstage the characters and the romance although Dell's brother, Adam, is definite hottie material.

First Thought When Finished: Dell + Jade = Fun and Hotness!
Story Talk: This is the second entry in Animal Magnetism series and with each book I fall a little more in love! The fact that we get to know and love this town in each book just adds to the richness. I am an animal lover, rescue enthusiast so part of me was going to love the premise by default. The other part of me fell in love with the way Jill wrote the community. She built the story so that the characters would shine. It was fun, heart-warming, and beautifully told.
Character Talk: I loved Dell and Jade! They were a fantastic mix of fun, a little damaged, and a whole lot of heart. I felt they were both where they needed to be and the fact that they knew each other for a year made it that much more fun! Their love of animals, Dell's want for Jade to feel strong, and Jade's need to organize his life had me smiling the entire story!
Audio Talk
I love Karen White's audio narration of the Animal Magnetism series. She does an excellent job with the pacing, humor, and emotion. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite audiobook narrators.
Final Thought: This is a fun contemporary series that I really am enjoying.

Eh. This wasn't awful or anything but I never really got into it? It was missing something.

I'm a sucker for small town stories and add to that three sexy brothers working with animals? What we got here is a fun contemporary romantic read. I am never disappointed with a Jill Shalvis contemporary and Animal Attraction is no exception.
I fell in love with both Jade and Dell right from the beginning. Jade moved to Sunshine, Idaho eighteen months before the story began. She went through a very traumatic experience and left Chicago to escape her family and her memories, though she eventually planned to go back home. When Animal Attraction began, she was working as a receptionist in an animal clinic and had about a month left in Sunshine before she leaves for home. Dell was Sunshine's sexy veterinarian. Animals love him (and vice versa) and the ladies love him more. On the outside he was friendly with a ready smile for everyone but he doesn't let anyone too close except for a few friends. Both have trust issues and do not let people get too close but for different reasons. I like that they have that in common. They are also reluctant to start anything because Jade is leaving and it was great watching them fight their attraction to each other. It was great watching them get together--their chemistry was great.
I also really liked the relationship Dell has with his brothers, especially Adam. It was fun seeing them interact and give each other a hard time. I am looking forward to reading Adam's book--I think I already know his heroine. I did wish that there was some dialogue (or some kind of resolution) between Dell and his mother. There were a few scenes between them and I know the issues in their relationship cannot be resolved quickly but it felt like that secondary story line was left hanging.
The writing and the pacing was great. The dialogue felt authentic to the situation. There is also great humor in this one. Animal Attraction is the second book in a series but it can be read as a standalone. I myself did not read the first book but after reading this book, I am definitely moving up Animal Magnetism (Brady and Lilah's book) up my to-be-read pile. Brady and Lilah were super cute in this book.
If you're looking for a fun contemporary read, you should definitely check out this series and Jill Shalvis (if you haven't already). Animal Attraction is a light, fun, sexy read and highly entertaining.

Animal Attraction, Animal #2, by Jill Shalvis
Grade: B
“You give everything you have to us, to this place, to the animals that come to you in it. So why can’t you give everything you have to the one woman who’s ever made you happy?”
Eighteen months ago Jade Bennett was held at gun point during a robbery at her parents’ health clinic in Chicago. After the traumatic experience Jade packed up her car and drove west, finally stopping in Sunshine, Idaho. Sunshine is the first place Jade has felt safe since the robbery and she is determined to find the strong woman she once was. Slowly Jade begins to rebuild her life starting with her great job as veterinarian Dell Connelly’s receptionist where she thrives. Not only does Jade love her job working with animals but also working with Dell who seems determined to break through all of Jade’s carefully erected walls one by one.
Dell Connelly likes to keep his life easy, especially when it comes to women and relationships. Never one to settle down Dell is surprised to find himself so drawn to Jade and the fact that she’s hiding secrets from him just makes him that much more determined to figure her out. As the two grow closer Dell realizes that somewhere along the way Jade has slipped into his life and he finds himself wanting to keep her there. When Jade’s family calls her back to Chicago Dell must convince not only Jade but himself to take a chance on their relationship and finally let all of their walls down.
Animal Attraction is the second book in Jill Shalvis’ Animal series but it can be read as a stand alone with no problem. I loved the whole animal aspect of this book. As a huge animal lover and owner the interactions with all the different animals was very cute and helped show a different, softer side of both Jade and Dell. I have never read a book with so many of the side characters being animals and I loved how they helped move the story along and got Jade and Dell to heal and open up.
Jade is a very complex, very frightened woman but at the same time she is sassy and can have a very funny, dry sense of humor. I loved her and really found myself rooting for her through out the book. I loved her relationship with Beans and loved seeing how all it took was a scared kitten to get this woman to slowly start to heal by giving it a home and keeping it safe. There were a few times when Jade acted like a crazy, jealous woman and got on my nerves but it was quickly resolved and she returned to being a normal human being.
Dell comes off as a very easy going playboy but you soon discover there is so much else going on. I feel that a lot of Dell’s back story was told in the first book in the series and this was the only time I felt lost. After a while you get caught up and learn why Dell never lets anyone but animals close to him and I found it to be quite heartbreaking. The sexual tension between Jade and Dell is amazing and when they finally get together it’s well worth the wait. The banter between the two is very funny and keeps the story from getting too heavy at times.
I found Animal Attraction to be a very cute, fun read. I found both of the main characters to be entertaining and I loved seeing them change and grow together. I really loved the animals and the fact that they play such a fun role in the story. I think this is a great series and I can’t wait to go back and read the first book to catch up. I hope that the series will continue because I love the world of Sunshine, Idaho that Mrs. Shalvis has made and i can’t wait to see what happens to all these great characters.

Favorite Quote: “I owe you. Lunch tomorrow?”
“We can never agree on a place.”
“Name it, then,” he said. “Name your price.”
This appeared to interest her given how she cocked her head. “That’s a lot of power.”
She had no idea how much power she already had.
“Anything.”
Book two in the Animal Magnetism series, Animal Attraction follows Dell, the vet from Animal Magnetism, and his secretary/gal Friday, Jade, as they fall in love. I was really looking forward to this story. Dell seemed like a really fun, nice guy and Jade was a very interesting and intriguing, some might say mysterious, woman. This is gonna be FUN!
And indeed it was! After being in Sunshine, Idaho, working for Dell at the clinic for a year and a half, Jade has decided (under pressure from her family) it’s time to go home, back to Chicago to work in her family’s doctor practice. But suddenly, her secret attraction to Dell starts to nag at her. Dell has the entire female population of Sunshine (and surrounding countryside) under his thrall (including the animals), but Jade refuses to succumb, too. Yes, she’s been thinking about him that way for quite a while now, but she just cannot be involved. Dell doesn’t DO involved, anyway. He’s scarred from being a throw-away kid in foster care; the only people he loves and trusts unconditionally are Brady and Adam. He cannot give himself to a woman in that way. Love like that scares him (as it does a lot of people).
Quote: It would be nice to know there was a woman waiting on him at the end of the day. He wouldn’t mind that. It was the emotional depth and level of attachment that bothered him. The love part. Love would take trust and blind faith. It would take allowing access to parts of him that he didn’t allow himself access to. “I’m not really cut out for it.”
Jade, thinking of leaving, slowly starts to let her guard down. In the time she’s been in Sunshine, NO ONE has been to her apartment. She doesn’t LET ANYONE IN, literally and figuratively (except, to a small degree, Lilah). But then she takes in one small homeless, wary kitten, and that seems to be what opens the door.
Jade’s hiding some recent trauma, but it becomes obvious that something has happened to her. Things start to get a little spicy when, due to some vet clinic break-ins in the area, Dell starts to teach Jade self-defense (in his home, where he never brings any other women). Both Jade and Dell find they like touching each other…which, of course, leads to kissing.
This book really lived up to it’s promise. Jade and Dell were so hot for each other; their chemistry was palpable. I enjoyed the watching the two of them let down their guard and break away from whatever it was holding them back. It was very sweet. I really loved the end, when they’ve both made up their mind…I cannot say too much without giving it away, but I loved this book and the characters.
