Daddy-Long-Legs was my introduction to epistolary novels when I was a kid. It was gifted to me by an older cousin and I was immediately taken with this story told through letters. Now as an adult there are parts that I now know haven't aged well, especially the second novel, Dear Enemy. My goodness, was Dear Enemy ever horribly ableist! We're talking the commendation of eugenics here! There was definitely some classism and racism at work, as well. Part of me wishes that I hadn't found out that Webster had written it in the first place, but in the end I'm glad that I know now. It doesn't do to remain in the dark and inadvertently recommend something so hurtful.
