The Summer Girl follows Claire who makes the decision to head to Martha’s Vineyard in search for her little sister Holly who has not been in contact with her family for a few days, completely out of her character and after no interest from the police or those living on the island, Claire takes matters into her own hands, and delves into the murky waters of the summer vacation isle.
This was a fantastically written story that I was completely engrossed in from the beginning, the characters were all fantastically written and I loved the way the book was written from the perspectives of both Claire and Holly, so that you could see the situation from both points of view, and the individual responsible at the end was probably one of the biggest shock twists I have read in a while! I love how the plot managed to wind around itself and come full circle, the book was not just focused sorely on Holly, we then discover another mysterious disappearance from Natalie five years prior, and Claire finds herself taking on this case too, wanting to find her sister and get justice for both girls!
I absolutely loved Claire and was willing for her to find out the truth throughout the entire book, I love the fact that the author had Claire go up against the most influential family on the island, and felt that could be quite reminiscent of society today (certain people being protected because of who they are) and I really loved the fact that Claire was at the point of not giving up but I also really liked the fact that she was an honest character she wasn’t willing to let the wrong people be incriminated and I really felt that added to her characters relatability.
This book is a mix of emotions there were so many that it elicited from me, I felt rage at the family for protecting the one person responsible for despicable actions, I felt sadness though a few of the plot twists and did find myself crying alongside a couple of the characters throughout the book, but I also felt a sense of triumph towards the end of the book, this is just a very well thought out and written novel, and I could not sing its praises enough!
This was a thriller story that I could not get enough of this is my second read by Jenny Blackhurst and it is just as fantastic as the first The Hiking Trip, I fully recommend her books to anyone who loves a crime/psychological thriller that will leave you guessing and gasping throughout!

Happy Pub Day @jennyblackhurstauthor 🥳 I absolutely loved this book and the cover! It is the perfect summer thriller🖤 The setting of the Martha’s Vineyard area in the summer is perfect. I also really enjoyed the dual timelines and POVs to explore the story of Holly who goes missing while working a summer job at the local marina. I highly recommend buying it to read this summer!

Absolutely amazing book. Jenny wrote such a fascinating plot. The characters were seedy, and everyone seemed suspicious, even the Police Department. The twists were unexpected but added so much more to the plot, and the ending left me gobsmacked. Honestly, I'm going to backtrack this authors books and read them all. If they're anything like this one, I've found a new autobuy author.
