Overall series rating: 3.5 stars
Sometimes I loved The Infernal Devices, sometimes I struggled. The thing with The Shadowhunter Chronicles is that you have to read and remember all books, cross-series, in publishing order, to really get a grip on everything that is happening, which sometimes feels more of a challenge then it imho should.
I loved Cassandra Clare's use of language and the way it took you back to another time. I did not dig the too-long-to-schmaltzy monologues, the tiresome and slightly snobbish allusions to fine literature, the drawn-out poetry quoting and the overall extravaganza. It felt like she was trying too hard to sound like Jane Austen, really.
It took me over a year to finish reading Clockwork Princess. After I stumbled across a spoiler that, I dreaded that Will would stay bereft of the happy ending he deserved. I didn't trust Cassandra Clare that she'd bring everything to a good end, so I put the book aside at 64 % for 12 long months. I really should have given her the benefit of the doubt: She wrote a beautiful ending to Tessa's and Will's story.
The second half of the epilogue -- -- was a bit too much, though, a bit too convenient. Given that I found Tessa's love to Jem not quite believable from the start, it annoyed the hell out of me, and I'm not quite sure wether my interest in the Shadowhunter Chronicles survived that hit.

There were a lot of moments during the audiobook that were hard for me to follow. Luckily, after the big events in the book the characters talked about what happened repeatedly, so I figured out what I missed through their conversations.

Oh...it made me cry so hard. But it was, I think, the best possible ending it could have been. If I ever need a good weep I know exactly what to read to get it going.
First read - 2018 - She made me cry so this is 4 stars. Jem! Will! Cecily! Gabriel! This book wasn’t perfect but it made me feel human emotions haha. It all wrapped up a little too perfectly.
Second read 2020- I LOVED the ending of this book, and I didn’t think I would cry BUT THINK AGAIN.

Honestly, I read this because I hate leaving series incomplete, not because I felt some compelling urge to find out either how the plot resolves or overwhelming concern for the lives of the characters. It was an adequate, if not gripping conclusion to the series. The Mary-Sue-ishness of Tessa's character made it so that I invested very little in her development or happiness. It all felt quite contrived.
