Wanted to finish this during jane-austen-july challenge but let’s be real, every month is a jane austen month.
This marks 4/6 of her novels that i’ve read and i must admit it is my least favourite so far. This is probably due to the fact that this was her first novel, which is quite noticeable. The plot and the characters are a bit wonky but it still has that quintessential austen charm that i love. I just adore classics because it gives me an opportunity to hate on John Thorpe and General Tilney 208 years after they have been written. I think Jane would be proud.

not sure how I read Northanger Abbey before Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility, but here I am (and I'm glad to be here). throughout the entire first volume, I was thinking, "this really seems like a book I'd hate....a woman madly in love with a loser she hardly knows....and yet I don't hate this at all. I kinda love it." the magic of Austen! the satirical tone! the build up, the unexpected suspense! every character is so dramatic in the most maddening yet hilarious way.

Fun and appealing main character. Some commentary on the plight of women but nothing like Ann Bronte's Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Great parody of Ann Radcliff's Mysteries of Udolpho castle scene. Typical Austin everything gets resolved happily ending.
