although this book did not have quite the lofty vocabulary that makes me think i'm studying for the GRE that her books usually have, it is still jane austen, and i still loved it.

A great audiobook to fall asleep to as it's a total snooze fest.

In my opinion, this is not Austen's most well written novel but from the books I've read by her, it is the funniest one.
3.5 ⭐
This was the first ever book written and last book to be published by Jane Austen, and while it did take me some time to get into the story, once I did I was completely hooked, except for the parts when General Tilney spoke, that was just a huge snooze-fest.
Wow this book had so many characters who made me want to go back to the year 1800 and strangle them. John Thorpe and family being my number one most hated characters.
So, this book was meant to be a satire of the gothic novels written in the 18th century that Jane Austen and everyone else grew up reading and loving. I think she did a great job at it, building up tension and mystery around old buildings, only to have them be plain and ordinary which greatly dissappoints our fallible, bloodthirsty Gothic novel obssessed leading lady, Catherine Morland.
This book has drama, romance, lovely character growth and unexpected jokes that made me laugh out loud!
I'll probably Re-read this in the future to appreciate it better, for now it's a 3.5 stars from me.

A nice read, but quite slow paced and not as exciting as other Jane Austen novels. I'd say this is my least favourite of the bunch!
henry tilney was the real villain and you cant convince me otherwise
