Humm what do I think. It was "OK". It is NOT the Night Circus. The imagery and character building are just are not there. However..
I felt throughout as if this was poetry(ish). Where each reader will have their interpretation of the meaning. The meaning of the sections as well as the book in its entirety. I felt the ending was disappointing. It needed more. But I guess how would you summarize something when you are leaving it open to interpretation?
I liked the main character. He seemed like someone I would be friends with, but I would have liked to see more development of his character, as well as, Dorian's.

This book was full of extraordinary quotes and shortstories. Yet so much happened and all of the events were rather absurd and hard to understand. It is, however, a beautiful story and definitely worth reading, but I guess it just isn't for everyone.

Easily one of my favorite reads; I finished the audiobook and then a week later I was starting it again. Mysterious, enchanting, and decadent.

This book features some of the most gorgeous prose I have read in modern fantasy. The storytelling is a little confusing and takes some getting used to at first (there are short, fairytale-style stories interspersed within the main narrative that seem irrelevant until they aren’t) but it is so worth it when all the threads are woven together in a tapestry of masterful storytelling by the end. As a chronic paragraph skipper and book swallower it is rare that I forcibly make myself read slower and savor the novel that I’m reading, but the Starless Sea brought it out of me, to the point that I actually started using tabs to keep track of language I appreciated or stories I wanted to go back to or links I could make with the main narrative. I loved this book so much, it is like nothing I have read before and I think it is truly a masterpiece.
