This book is quite different from the other books by Rebekah Weatherspoon than I had previously read. This book tackled the topics of grief and trauma while also discussing love and the healing aspects of engaging in a BDSM dynamic. This book also looked at coping: the ways people expect you to cope with a loss compared to the way people who have lost the person closest to them cope every day.

In the fist chapter Claudia watches her brother die at the hands of a group of serial killers who found their camp site on the mountain. She is chased by the psychopaths through the woods and finds herself on Shepard’s front step needing him to save her life. In the following year Claudia has to come to terms with her life as it is now, her relationship, and what she really wants out of her life. Ultimately that journey of self discovery brings her back to the mountains and the Shepard’s cabin in the woods. Together they give each other the comfort they are seeking while exploring their sexuality and desires together.

This series was one I instantly knew I needed to continue and after reading Xeni and loving the way that Rebekah explored those topics I am looking forward to seeing the variety of ways that this series will explore the darker side of romance.
