"I withdraw my consent from reality. I deny it my assistance. I dedicate myself to the temptations of escapism, and throw myself wholeheartedly into the endlessness of unreality."

I loved this book! It's the best escape I've had from the maddening reality I exist in for ages. Nick, a 6-th former, receives a DVD with a game. He already knows it exists, some of his friends are acting strange and striking up strange alliances. Nick is quickly absorbed into the world of Erebos. However, the game gives him further tasks than slaying orcs and giant scorpions - it gives him tasks to perform in reality. These become more and more challenging as the game progresses.

I have never been a gamer, which is probably a good thing, I would probably never have emerged. Even so, the computer game described here is utterly absorbing and I could feel how addictive it was when Nick played. Eventually the book comes out of the fantasy world to become a nail-biting thriller. It was exciting all along, I just didn't see exactly where things were going until the second half of the book. Highly recommendable to YA/thriller fans!

There was a while ago I read this, bit I remember this being my favorite book after reading it, so I’d recomend it.

I picked this up because I am a fan of YA books and also a fan of gaming. Do I consider myself a gamer? No, not really, but I do really enjoy them!

I can see why this was a bestseller in Germany, it is really good and I think that if I read it as a teen (like the genre intends for me to do), the rating would be higher.

I liked how Poznanski switched between the virtual and real world, without segmenting it by chapter, as many authors do...it was seamless transition between the two worlds.

If you enjoy suspense-YA novels, then this is the book for you. I want to give it a higher rating, I do, but Goodreads doesn't have a 1/2 star system. I would have given in 3.5 stars.

I just yesterday finished it. This book was suggested by my sister. It is a easy read. I read it in two days. As I am a gamer, I really enjoyed it. But it wasn't amazing, so that is why it didn't receive 5 stars. There was only one small thing which annoyed me was how writer was describing how addictive this game was to the main character (oversaturated).
