This book was fantastic a very diff change for this author! Usually we get spice spice spice and this was more slow and angsty and full of steam. I’m obsessed with it! And that ending? Don’t play with me! I cant wait for the next book.

Cyrus is daddyyyy!!!!

Wesley can get hit by a bus!

I really enjoyed this book, it had so much happening that I couldn’t put it down! I love how strong Sierra is, she is prepared to do whatever it takes to ensure her sister is taken care of even if it means she goes without. Braxton & Zander have redeemed themselves a bit after the way they behaved and I’m holding out hope that Colton comes to his senses. I absolutely love Cyrus and the way he cares for Sierra, helping her and doing his best to break down her walls. I’m looking forward to book 2 after that cliffhanger!

Bre Rose has created a masterpiece. I am proud to say I won a contest to name the characters and Bre presented them exactly how I pictured them.
Sierra has been through more suffering and disappointment than anyone her age should. Losing both her parents and her childhood, the only thing keeping her strong is her will to provide for her little sister and her friendship with Wesley, until the friendship is gone.
Becoming enemy #1 after a night that Sierra can't remember, she now has to struggle to take care of her sister and survive her senior year.
An absentee and abusive aunt, A job she hates to support her sister and trying to graduate, Sierra can't handle much more.
Now enter the brothers, Colton, Zander and Braxton. Could they be her savors or will they just add to the torture?
I was blown away by Against All Odds by Bre Rose. This book puts you through the emotional wringer and the ending leaves you needing more.

I've enjoyed a few of Bre Rose's books now, and while contemporary books aren't normally my favorite setting, she has a way of crafting compelling characters and engaging stories that draw the reader in and hook them. I was caught up in Sierra's struggles from early on and eager to keep reading and see how things developed. This is a great read and I highly recommend it.

Against All Odds - Breaking Hearts Duet #1 - Review

Couple: Sierra with Zander, Braxton, Cyrus and…maybe Colt and Wes (in the ned)

Author: Bre Rose

Tropes: RH, contemporary, bully romance, miscommunication, hidden identity, why choose

Review: This was my first time reading a Bee Rose book and it did not disappoint. The books does have bullying themes and hints of past sexual assault so it may trigger some readers. However, I thought it was a great beginning to Sierra’s story and so tragic but lovely at the same time.

The book handles the tough themes wonderfully and makes you question how Sierra is so strong in her care for her sister. While reading part 1, I continually asked myself how she could still be so optimistic and goal oriented even when so many things bring her down.

The book is a why choose romance and Sierra is a young woman who hides her past very well. The main villain in this book is Wes and I wanted the shake him so much for his ill will. I am curious how will play a role in the next book and redeem himself. The three brothers were a great addition to Sierra’s men and I really like how different each was…even though Colt is not a fan of hers right now. Cyrus may be the top right now but I also think he is super important to finding out the secrets that surround Sierra.

The book has a lot of chemistry but is not spicy yet. I liked how this first part centered around introducing the men and their relationships with Sierra. I also want to know more about Rico and see him more in book 2. Sierra’s relationship with her younger sister is also something that Bree wrote phenomenally. The inner resilience both those girls show is astounding and I hope they get their HEA.

Overall, this is a great first part and the ending leaves on a huge cliffhanger. I am excited to read the finale.

Rating: 8/10, dark but fast read!

Whyyyyy did I read this knowing that it was a duet and the second volume hasn't been published yet? All I gotta say is, there had better be a friggin' epic grovel from a couple of so-and-sos in volume 2...

Sierra just can't catch a damned break. Before the novel even starts, she wakes up after a party at her childhood best friend's house unable to remember the party, and her so-called best friend Wesley now hates her. She knows she was
raped
(and violently, by the physical evidence) but she can't remember anything. All the signs are there for the reader to guess who did it, but she doesn't put it together (or report it, which is sadly realistic), and Wesley won't speak to her except to hurl insults and sic every kid in school on her. Then her mom dies of cancer, and her worthless aunt squeezes every dime she can out of her.

Now it's senior year, she's working under the table as a stripper (even though she's only 17), horribly bullied every day at school, and lives in fear that CPS will take her 10-year-old sister away from her before she turns 18 in a couple months and can officially file for custody. I mean, it's a total whumpfest and I desperately need volume 2 to let the girl relax for once.

At least she's got her kind elderly neighbor who helps with her sister, and Cyrus, the college-aged bouncer at the club she works at on her side. And three new in town brothers who are all into her, to varying degrees. When the grovels come, Cyrus, Zander, and Braxton are good (so far). It's Colton and Wesley who need to bend the knee. I actually liked that Colton was more swayed by peer pressure and eager to please popular jock Wesley--it felt authentically high-schoolish that not all the brothers would immediately step up to defend the school pariah. But he's gonna need to do some apologizing.

And then there's Wesley. I have to assume he's an eventual harem member since he gets POV chapters, but... I'm not sold. He needs a few days of getting his dick stomped on the reg. He's either monumentally stupid or he's a genuine sociopath. He gets excited thinking of new ways to torment Sierra. Vicious, criminal ways. (And how about him always thinking about how she betrayed him because he wanted to lose their virginities together, while she only ever thinks of him as her former best friend? Hmmm.) I cannot WAIT for the moment he realizes he's wrong about her, and he has to reconcile all the shit he's done to hurt her. That's my very favorite thing in a bully/grovel story.

Likable main characters, a very readable style (with some repetitive scenes), multiple POV (love that!), and an agonizing cliffhanger. Why do I do this to myself?

This book caused me so much emotional damage! I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room so many times, while I also wanted to reach into it and smack some of the characters!

Wow. I finished this a bit ago and I’ve been trying to process my thoughts and emotions ever since. Sierra is the strongest fmc I’ve come across in quite awhile. She’s been through so much, life keeps knocking her down but she always gets back up. She is fiercely protective of her sister and I love their relationship. Braxton and Zander made me mad at the beginning when they followed the crowd and didn’t step in for Sierra out of fear of not being popular. Luckily they both got their heads out of their
