Do you believe in love at first sight? What about in soul mates? What would you do if you met someone and instantly felt connected to them but you just happen to be in a serious relationship with someone else? And what would you do if you came across that same someone years later? These are the questions that crossed my mind while reading "Connected" by Kim Karr.
"Connected" is the first in a series called "Connections" and is about Dahlia "Dahl" London and River Wilde. They first meet during Halloween of 2006 at a campus bar. Dahlia is a college student and River is the lead singer of "The Wilde Ones". The two feel an instant connection but Dahl is in a relationship with Ben Covington and decides to leave instead of wait for River to finish his set.
Five years pass, Ben and Dahl are engaged but Ben is later killed in a carjacking gone wrong. Dahl mourns for Ben for two years and then decides to begin living her life again. She is then assigned to interview none other than River whose band is now making waves in the music scene. Dahl has never forgotten that Halloween night with River but does River share the same memory or was she merely a passing thought to him that night?
This was a good book and told an interesting story about loving someone and falling and being in love with someone. Dahl's relationship with Ben developed over the years, especially since they had known each other since they were five. On the other hand, Dahl and River simply had this connection that is explained as "once in a lifetime". The question is, was that connection a fluke or was it something that surpassed even the time they were apart?
I had a few issues with "Connected". There are a couple of twists in the book and yes, I suspected what one twist was from the time an event occurs early in the book and figured out the other twist based on a character's reaction. So, the epilogue wasn't really a surprise nor the "bombshell" announced in book two. There were also times where the dialogue seemed on "repeat" and where conversations or observations where interjected without any preamble, making a scene appear stilted. Editing issues were also noticeable: missing commas, misused/misspelled words (ex. "shutter" instead of "shudder"), wrong verb tenses, etc.
All in all, "Connected" took me several stops and starts before I finally got around to finishing it. This was a very descriptive and wordy book and had a tendency of being repetitive. The premise of the story was good and the lead characters, though a tad cloyingly clingy, were somewhat engaging. As a whole, I'm giving the book 3.5 stars out of five, rounding it off to four for Goodreads' purposes.

Sexy and gorgeous River Wilde meets beautiful and loving Dahlia London. Sparks fly, souls connect... but there are many obstacles they need to get past before they can truly be happy.
I loved their story. The instant connection... love. that. River's made his way onto my book boyfriend list. He's so loving. The emotions within their story are all over the place and I truly felt what they were feeling as they were feeling it. I can't wait to see what's in store for them next.

I loved the music theme in the book!
I wished there would have been more involvement with their first meeting, not just a few minutes. I also thought they reunited too quickly, (I know, weird)! However, the ending saved it for me! I did not see that coming! I definitely want to read the next one!

The beginning was amazing, but it started to lose steam towards the end. It was good, but the end had me counting pages.
Dahlia has been with her boyfriend, Ben, for as long as she can remember and she loves him. Then one night at a bar she meets River Wilde, lead singer of The Wilde Ones, and their connection was instantaneous and it confused the crap out of Dahlia. Despite their connection, Dahlia knew she couldn't act on her feelings, heck she didn't even understand her feelings, so she left and returned to Ben.
Years later, Dahlia's life is turned upside down one very tragic night. After some pushing from her best friend, she finds herself face to face with River Wilde once more. And even though years have pasted since that one night in a college, the connection is still there - this feeling like they were soul mates. This book was a love story told so beautifully you were completely caught up in these characters.
Despite being a love story, there were some strange incidence that I could not at first put my finger on. But rest assured, there is an answer and the ending will shed light on some of the more strange happenings.
This was by far one of the best "cliffhanger" endings I have read in a very long time. I literally wanted to scream out loud when this book finished. But the cliffhanger ending put everything that happened into place and really set me up for the second book. The ending totally answered the questions that I had throughout the book.

I HATE cliffhangers. This one really broke my heart.
This book is steamy, sweet, swoon worthy romantic, and did I mention steamy? For those of you that love panty dropping heat this book is a must read. I have recently become a smut fan, but a lot of the time I find myself skimming through the sex scenes. With River and Dahlia I found myself captive during their passion. River mixes sizzling touches with heart melting words.
Dahlia is a very strong, worthy heroine and I found that I really appreciated her. What really hooked me was watching her come back to life through River. I've always hated the way books rush connections. But with this book I believed the connection ran deeper. I felt it.
The ending however left me feeling broken. I'm not going to give it away but if I were Dahlia nothing would change. River is too amazing, too perfect, and too thoughtful for doubts. I'd love to rant more but I can't ruin this for others.

Wow. That's seriously the first and only word that is coming to mind after reading this book. I finished this book hours ago and it is still on my mind. Connected is the first book that I remember ever having this reaction to. Usually I can tell you right off how much I loved or didn't love a book, but that just isn't the case here. This book was a roller coaster of emotions, drama, sex and romance, and I have to tell you I just wasn't ready to get off the ride.
Connected is Kim Karr's first Novel in the Connections series and is the story of Dahlia and River. After suffering the tragedy of losing her fiance Ben, Dahlia's world is shattered. After living in a state of devastation for over a year, her best friend Aerie decides that it is time Dahlia start getting back out into the world. She sends Dahlia to interview River Wilde the singer for the rock band the Wilde Ones. Aerie knows that Dahlia has always had a sort of crush on River. But she has no idea that one night many years ago Dahlia and River had an intense moment together in a bar. Dahlia and River reconnect and begin to see if the connection they once felt to each other is still there and as strong as they remember. As they grow closer, Dahlia begins to heal from losing Ben and for the first time in years sees a future for herself that is worth living.
I really loved River. He was sexy and sweet and truly patient with Dahlia. He never tried to be a replacement for Ben, but rather a separate love for Dahlia. I loved that although he was a rock star he was actually very modest, pursuing the career for his love of music rather than fame. He was content to play small local bars and preferred to be close to home rather than on the road. I liked Dahlia's character even though she would make me shake my head at times. I thought that her and River had a genuine connection and I really believed that they could fall in love in the short amount of time that it took. Their scenes together were extremely hot and steamy! I really enjoyed the secondary characters also, and I'm excited to read their stories in the rest of the connections series.
However I did have a few problems with this book. I felt as though sometimes things were described in way too much detail. The pacing seemed to be slow at points and I found myself at times wanting to skip ahead a few paragraphs to get through some of the more detailed spots. I love detail, but there is no need to rehash the same things paragraph after paragraph. Also, without going into specifics and to avoid spoilers, I will say there were a few scenes that just came off as cheesy to me. I'm all for romance and some sap when the story needs it, but a few of these really had me rolling my eyes. My biggest problem with this book is the way it ends. I really hate cliffhangers. If the book is in a series, have no doubt I will be reading the next one. No need to make me wait months or years to discover what happened next! The abruptness always throws me off and makes me get a little angry. I'll admit it, I'm impatient! I don't want to have to wait to see where you are taking the characters and the story. This cliffhanger is a real doozy too! Although I saw it coming from the beginning I was still shocked as I was reading it. I couldn't believe that the author was really going there. Just as the story was picking up the pace again we are cut off and left to wonder what just happened, as the story completely flips!
Overall, this book was one I just couldn't put down. It was a very emotional read, running me through the entire gamut of emotions. It kept me interested throughout, and I found myself wanting to call up my friends and talk about it. Its definitely not your typical rock star romance although music plays a huge part in this book. I loved seeing the different ways that the author incorporated it into the story. I'm excited and nervous to see where Karr will take the story in Torn. The cliffhanger really does open up so many possibilities for book #2, but I just know that I will be counting the days until October 1st when it releases. I think this story is one you wont want to miss if you enjoy and emotional read and can get past a cliffhanger.

Well I made I through so that should count for something. Right?
I found it to be a predictable, anticlimactic hump fest. No real drama and no real substance. I couldn’t really invest in the characters because everything was so surface level. Most of the book takes place on less than a week but we’re already to I love you’s. It’s just weird!
I really wanted to like it but I was mostly annoyed.
