challenging dark mysterious reflective sad tense fast-paced

Molly grew up on an isolated farm with no one but her loving parents for comfort. She has a condition, see, where anytime she bleeds, that blood will grow a clone molly. And the clones are not friendly. Her parents teach her survival skills, knowing that they will not always be there to protect her, and knowing it is impossible (especially for a woman) to go through a lifetime without bleeding.

This was a smart, interesting sci-fi novella, with a smart, interesting protagonist. Throughout the story, the reader follows Molly as she matures, sometimes questioning her humanity, sometimes pushing against her curse. Glad I stumbled upon it. It's apparently a trilogy, so I'm going to have to pick up books 2 and 3 at some point. A nice shift from all the ghosts and demons I've been spending my time with lately (not that there's anything wrong with indulging in favorite tropes, just sometimes it's good to mix things up a little).

I don’t know how I feel. This was so messy and pointless but I wanna know where the story is going

Intense, terrifying and to be honest a bit heart breaking at the end. Really loving these novella's that TOR is putting out this year.

This book is exactly what the synopsis suggests and it's magnificent. The entire concept of this book is intriguing and gripping, and the actual narration of the plot is damn near perfect.

The character development of the main character, Molly, is flawless. The way she grows and interacts with this strange but unavoidable condition felt incredibly authentic. The science-fiction element isn't overdone, but enough to provide an explanation of how Molly came to be. And the round-about conclusion of the story was something I couldn't fault if I tried.

Tade Thompson is an author I have wanted to pick up for a long time, and I highly implore any reader who is curious to not delay picking up his work.
