I liked this more than expected! The opening did not ingratiate me to the book, and I think the bookends are the weakest elements, but they are direct, and I liked the way structure was toyed with in these elements. I think the story could have benefited from a different structure overall: it is very linear, and it felt like a weird fit for a story like this. Not a lot of atmosphere or heart, but that may be attributable to the storytelling device.
I had hoped for a couple more answers, and a couple choices were head-scratching; I disliked But I read this book in one sitting, stayed engaged throughout, and had little qualms about the very competent prose. which is an automatic 4 stars from me.
