This was a fascinating story for me until it wasn't. I found the beginning intriguing and the whole middle where we learn Molly's back story was fascinating and I was hooked to see what would happen next. But then the end came and I felt let down. I was confused by the sudden turn of events and why Molly possibly is the way she is. Obviously there is hidden meaning or some sort of metaphor about life that I am just not understanding with this story.
So all in all, a good read but I don't have interest in continuing onto the next story.

That... was... weird !
Very short story. Read it in one sitting. It's captivating. You keep asking yourself : what the f*** is going on ? What is this ?
Unusual, interesting, refreshing, creepy. This was sitting in my library ebook wishlist for a long time and I wanted to try something new.
It's worth reading ! A crossover between science-fiction, thriller, mystery, dystopian, kind of journal like...

It feels good to finally finish a book, given how sporadic my reading has been of late. I start off saying that because I don't want that feeling to effect my review and I want people to be aware that I'm been struggling to read and this is the book that broke that cycle; but it shouldn't change what I have to say on it.
Given it's page count the story here is very well told, and captivating. It starts out with an intriguing mystery then through a flashback tells an engaging pseudo-horror story where it's not clear if this is supernatural, weird science, or traditional but unexplained horror. It's told very sparingly and the choice to tell it through the eyes of a girl as she's growing up is very effective. It was only after finishing and realising that the author is a man that I became especially impressed as the depiction of a young girl growing up felt particularly well realised and I had therefore assumed the author was female a drawing on personal experience.
The last third of the book takes some dark twists, not entirely unexpected, but not rote either which made for an exciting end to the story within a story as things escalated. It'll be interesting to see where this series goes as there's still a lot of ground to explore.
All in all, this will take you around 3 hours to read, give it a try. You could do it in one night, or comfortably over a weekend with just casual reading and it's worth that time investment. It's not a huge commitment and the story has some really inventive and immersive elements to it. I recommend this one, whole heartedly.

I liked this story, the premise and didn’t hate the writing style. It did fall a bit flat though. I felt like I was missing part of the story.
However, I did like it enough to be planning on reading the sequel so that’s that.
