Listened to the audiobook with our 6&7 year olds... and couldn't stop laughing! With hilarious characters (phenomenal voices on the audio version) and a zany plot we couldn't wait to hear what happened next and quickly zipped through all 3 books in the series. Even my husband starting requesting we wait till he was home so he didn't miss any of it either!
So so funny! My guy students loved that it was fairy tales from a guy's perspective. But it is quite a band of misfit princes., really hilarious
A really fun account of the faces behind the nameless Princes Charming from Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, and Snow White. I liked how each prince (and princess) was given a very unique character, instead of the fairly generic personalities you get from classic versions of these stories. It’s not really a retelling so much as a sequel to all the original fairy tales.
Did not realize the intended audience was middle school readers until just now. For that audience, I'm rating this 4 stars. Good examples of people, particularly men, learning to work together, value each other, and value themselves.
What a hilarious story. If I had been in middle school, this would have been a real gem. I appreciate all stories where characters develop/ have a great arc and this one manages to have FOUR of them.
That being said, a lot of it was very simple, with event A leading to event B and then event C and then everything very neatly wrapping up. Which is nice, but a little anticlimactic for me. I did like how the princes did not completely turn into gentlemen at the end, or the perfect version of themselves.
Prince G was probably my favorite arc, as he really in the end is a better person than we started with, but in a believable way.
The princes are all four very different, distinct personalities and although they are a little bit caricature-ish, I still enjoyed their relations with each other.
It was pretty amusing, but I must say I don't know if I enjoyed the breaking the 4th wall parts as much. I think it's really hard to write a funny story, and sometimes they felt like they were trying a little too hard. But this is a story meant for a different demographic than me, and I can see it being successful with another group.
It was an okay book with some good characters. 3/5

Fun line, "Better to be loved for something lame than to be hated for no good reason." p. 89
This book has so many lough-out-loud moments it got kind of embarrassing after a while.
I highly ecommend the audiobook, Bronson Pinchot is absolutely phenomenal.

"One was wearing an ornate but ragged white suit that made him look like the leader of a zombie marching band." If I wasn't sold by this line, this did it. This book is hilarious and presents such an awesome concept. The princes are wonderful characters, and the princesses are equally fun (well, with one possible exception). Book 2, please?
The Princes Charming from the Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty stories are not having a good time. Their happily ever afters are not turning out how they thought they would. They thought they could rescue the princess, get married and that would be the end of it. But often the princess rescues herself or turns out to be a shrew. So the Princes Frederick (Cinderella), Gustav (Rapunzel), Liam (Sleeping Beauty) and Duncan (Snow White) all set off on their own adventures, eventually meet up and form the League of Princes. They really are the most incompetent group of princes imaginable but their hearts are in the right place. Along the way they face trolls, giants, an evil witch, bandits and a dragon all in their quest to save the day and their kingdoms.
I had really high hopes for this book when I got it from the publisher. I thought the premise sounded awesome and I love fractured fairy tales. And their is a lot to like about the story. The princes are fun characters and very unique and their princesses are interesting in their own way as well. The problem with the story was that it took a lot to get into. The first half of the book really seemed to drag for me. There was a lot of wondering around the forest fumbling into funny situations where the princes made fools of themselves or did or said crazy things and then somehow got themselves out of it. It wasn't until the last quarter of the book that everything seemed to come together. The ending did leave things very open to more books in this series, but I hope any future books are a little more focused.
