those motherfuckers are actually insane omg (i hate that i find it entertaining)
I enjoyed the read, and will be looking for the next in the series. I wasn't aware that there was a prequel to this and I think it would have been clearer if I had read it. As this starts after she has already met her mates, so it takes a little time to catch up to what is happening.
I like the characters, and that it isn't insta love. There is obviously a connection between some of them, even if they are fighting against it.
Most of the book just seemed to revolve around revenge and nothing much else, and whilst I understand it is a slow burn there seemed to be little development in the plot and characters and was just focused around anger and miscommunication. I think from the next in the series, I would like to see more action and plot development alongside the characters development.
I did have to remind myself that the characters are not 17/18 year old, as there is a lot of pettiness and the lack of any sort of communication was a little repetitive. Why did they make the deal, why would they want to kill their regina? Why did she not ask them why they were hunting her and had made the deal? It just seemed a little confusing especially as she was banished by her father and told never to meet her mates, but then he sends them to capture her and it turns out he wants her back? Feels a little like whiplash.
BUT I did really enjoy the authors writing, and the mystery shrouding the other mates and the overall world created.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

this was crazy addictive!
honestly, this book was like a combo between [b:broken bonds|58081613|Broken Bonds (The Bonds that Tie, #1)|J. Bree|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1624800765l/58081613._SY75_.jpg|91026927] and [b:plier|123735338|Plier (Ironside Academy, #1)|Jane Washington|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1679678079l/123735338._SY75_.jpg|145115614]. i wasn't completely sure how to feel about the mmcs - like plier, some of them seemed apathetic half the time, and that was kinda devastating. but i did adore the few that had strong feelings for our girl - even if they were negative feelings!!
and i adored our fmc, she was so strong and had a gorgeous personality, plus i loved her tight bond with her friends. also the non-binary rep was so good to read!! sometimes the issue with rh books is that the fmc has no friends (especially female friends), but luckily that wasn't the case here.
the plot twists were especially shocking, but that was alright because the plot was still good fun, and i just could not put this book down. so easy to obsess over!!

Why didn’t I read this book sooner? It’s a lot more humorous than I expected—not that I’m complaining. I enjoy the mix of light heartedness with the serious, dark undertones especially with her mates backstories. So far, I don’t mind any of the Mated which is a feat since I usually have my top, my eh, and then my least.
I rate this book a nice 7.8 out of 10! I love the really interesting world the EP Bali is building here. I did not read the prequel so I felt a little lost but that’s on me! I will read it before I proceed to the next book, which I will!
I felt that Aurelia’s views on her actions and of those around her were a little bit Yellow Wallpaper-y, if you know what I mean? I know her life experience makes her unstable but I wonder if this was a choice from the author or if it’s just me not having read the prequel (again my fault). I felt like the friendships she’s made and the work she’s done at the hospital was my proof that she was on solid ground. But whenever the paranoia would set in, I question. Is this a product of her father’s conditioning her into the paranoia or are we supposed to get a sense of her fractured mind because she has to keep denying her fate?
I’m excited to read further into the series!
