Breezy, fun, not particularly deep but I appreciate the reframing of cursed objects as simply items with interesting stories tied to them.

Kind of disappointed. I was expecting fun spookiness, but got not so funny to me humor. I feel like there's condescending undertone to it. Making fun of abused child was especially hard to listen. I feel like there's much more material to go deeper into objects' history, everything was very dry and factual. The author did his reasearch, but it felt more like the list of themes to research more later than book that should feed my curiosity. Maybe this is more for those that don't take paranormal seriously because if I don't take it seriously, it's not scary, just boring. And this book was boring to me. The narrator had ok voice and great pronunciation but his narration made condescending undertone much worse.

We have all heard of the curse of the Hope Diamond and King Tut's Tomb, but have you heard of Annabelle the Doll that inspired The Conjuring or The Ring of Silvianus which is thought to have inspired J. R. R. Tolkien to write The Hobbit?  Cursed Objects is filled with stories of both infamously cursed objects and others that are more obscure.  An interesting, well-written book.  Tim Campbell's narration draws the listener in and holds their interest throughout the book.

(NETGALLEY AUDIOBOOK -  I RECEIVED A COMPLIMENTARY ADVANCED READER COPY OF THIS BOOK THROUGH NETGALLEY. OPINIONS EXPRESSED IN THIS REVIEW ARE COMPLETELY MY OWN.)

Cursed Objects did not live up to my expectations. The narrator was great and there were lots of stories about cursed objects, but I was expecting some seriously scary history about these objects. I wanted stories that creeped me out or as the description mentions this being a chilling volume. None of this happened to me. I found that the book seemed more like a skeptic's guide to cursed objects which would be perfectly ok but that's not the impression I got from reading the galley's description.

I think this book would be great for readers who are easily creeped out and want to hear the "myths" behind the cursed objects, followed up by the facts. The facts quickly demolished any creepy I felt about the book. This book does a great job of telling the reader what people wanted to believe about the objects versus what really happened. If that's what you're looking for, then be prepared to thoroughly enjoy this book.. If you're looking more for something in the horror genre, then you should probably look elsewhere.

I'm giving this book 3 stars because it has lots of good information but it doesn't live up to the hype of being "scary."

I picked this up as just a fun read and break from all of the fiction I was consuming. This was so much fun! I loved all the stories on these strange curios and will have to check out more books by J.W. Ocker.
