'The Devil's Only Friend' by Dan Wells is the 4th book in the John Cleaver. This book falls into the urban fantasy genre with lots of monster
John Wayne Cleaver hunts down demons, but to the outside world, he appears to be a monster himself. The demons he's been hunting have killed most of the people in his life. Now, he finds himself on a special government team. Along with that, he finds himself with a new roommate, which is against John's wishes. John's got a gift for finding the demons and the FBI needs him, but he's not so sure he needs or wants the FBI. When a bunch of children in hospitals start to get sick and die and when a demon calling himself the Hunter shows up, John finds he is the only person able to find and stop them.
This book starts a new trilogy in the series. I like the character and I like that no character is safe (except probably our strange hero). The humor and gore are balanced right, and the writing is pretty good. I'll be looking to read more in this series.

The series takes a hard left turn on this book. I really enjoyed it, but it is not the same series as the first 3 books.

Another fantastic addition to a truly exceptional, unique series. As twisted as he is, I've missed John Cleaver. He has a mind and personality that is rare in fiction, and is masterfully written. You want to cheer for him and run away from him at the same time. The demons are as creative and interesting as ever, the story complicated and thrilling. I literally didn't know what to expect by the end. I hope this isn't the end of the series. After what happened at the end, I'm dying for more... Poor choice of words, but you get the idea. ;)

Spoiler
wird dann doch viel zu schnell und einfach besiegtdagrumpypixi3's review against another edition

The series has lost much of its novelty for me, but as far as YA books go, it still stand out as a unique and refreshing change of pace.

I read this book and the three preceding it each in a single sitting. Dan Wells' writing is immediately captivating and infallibly complicated as he delves deep into the mind of a reluctant young sociopath, crossing this psychological thriller with a unique and fascinating fantasy line which I neither expected nor learned to predict. John Cleaver is quite possibly one of my favorite protagonists in both genres -- psychological thriller and scifi/fantasy -- which both disturbs and delights me. This is, of course, the mark of success in a protagonist. Thanks, Dan Wells, for writing such addicting books with such embarrassingly cliche titles. Don't read this one in public if you mind getting weird looks, friends.
