Even though this is probably my least favorite of this quartet, I still love re-experiencing this series every year!
Okay, this was decent and the adventure was actually pretty good, but that flying donkey/rabbit or whatever he is was really annoying! He was funny at times, but it was mostly because of the other characters. I think it was made worse by the narrator who made him particularly whiny. Still, I needed to read it so I can move on to the 4th book. I hope it's better than this one!
The first two in the series lived up to my memory of them, this one not as much. Perhaps it was because of the way Killer was portrayed in the audiobook or the lack of the predominant characters that lead me to find this one somewhat plodding and uneventful. I love Morwin, but I felt this story didn't showcase her as well as I would have liked. Still enjoyable and I think if I read it instead of listened to it I would've liked Killer more.
Reread 2020: I should have taken my own advice and skipped this book. Killer is *slightly* less annoying when reading the book and not listening to the audio, but only very slightly. He's still completely pointless and ruins the book, though.

Considering how much I loved the first two books in this series, I'm disappointed with how much I didn't like this one. There was not enough from Cimorene's point of view, for starters. I like Morwen, but she was not as strong as a pov character. Pushing Mendenbar completely to the background was a mistake, especially since it seems like the interesting plot was taking place with him, and we only got to hear about it afterwards.
The new character, Killer, was what really killed this book for me though - he was SO ANNOYING. The whole book would have increased at least a star rating, if not two, if he had just been removed entirely.
There's only one more book, and this one ended on a cliffhanger, so I'm going to finish the series - but still, this one made me sad. The first two were so, so much better. Depending on how the last one goes, I would suggest just reading them as a couplet - they end in such a way that you don't need to continue the story. We'll see.

A bit too many cats to keep track of. But a great ending and set up for the next book.
I read and rated this book based on previewing it for my nine and a half year old daughter. As other readers mention, the character called "Killer" is very annoying, but all in all it is a good read. My daughter is sensitive to many book themes and I think this series as a whole doesn't contain frightening themes or characters. All suspense is almost immediately remedied and the author has a clever way of doing away with the "bad guys". (Though I'll note that the fourth book contains more violence.). The story is simple and not overly complicated and contains humor I think this age group will love.

Every bit as good as I remember from when I was a kid. Light hearted sarcastic treatment of fairy tale troupes, strong female leads, cute if predictable plot. Good series for the end of the year.
What I had forgotten about this book was the truly tragic ending. The book ends with the main love interests separated until their unborn child can grow up to save the forest. Really really sad. Was not expecting this ending and read while traveling, made me miss my wife.
