Ugh... Audio book.
I. Just. Can't.
I did audio on the first two of this series, and although Telmarain (sp?) has a very annoying "voice cracking teen nerd" voice, I got over that for the rest of the cast, the humor, and the general fun of the stories.
This one?
THE FLIPPIN' CATS.
I just can't with the cats. Their voices are the most annoying conglomeration of spastic accents I have ever heard. It was like a cornucopia of stereotypical voice actors threw up and scratched a chalk board.
Then, just when I decided I could make it...
THE FLIPPIN 6 FOOT BUNNY.
Seriously? He sounds like he wants to hug him and squeeze him and call him George.
And then, when I decided to power through anyway, because I enjoyed the first two so much...
TELMARAIN AND HIS VOICE CRACKING
And that is when I realized that I was only 24.78% of the way through.
Rather than gouge out the auditory sensing portion of my brain through a self given lobotomy, I decided to just abandon the book.

Umm, I wasn't crazy about this one, which was surprising because I enjoyed the first two so much. But I think the problem was that Cimorene didn't get much to do and Mendenbar was almost completely absent. When Kazul went to do stuff off-screen, I pretty much gave up. I like Morwyn, but the rest of the ensemble cast was mostly just very annoying and she couldn't make up for it on her own. Honestly, I think Killer's presence just kinda ruined the whole thing for me. He was just so incredibly annoying and took up so much story space that I really didn't feel the charm and pleasantness of the first two books had any presence in the story.
The cats were funny, but it just wasn't enough to win the story over for me, personally.
But! The ending was really, really surprising and I have to find out what happens, so finger's crossed that the next book focuses on characters that I can actually stand and brings back that clever charm and wry pragmatism of the first book.

I love this book - mostly because of the insight we get into Morwen and her cats. I always miss understanding what her cats are saying after I've read this book. Also, while Killer, the bunny turned blue, flying donkey, can be quite annoying at times, I'm really rather fond of him, too.
Love this series, but this is the low point lol. Definitely not as good as the first two.
A fun series. Once again, the (overt) moral is that being different is ok, and people shouldn't be bound by tradition or other people's expectations.
This one is from the point of view of the tidy, nice witch Morwen.

The third book in the Enchanted Forest Chronicles is great mainly b/c it focuses on witch Morwen and her cats. Lots of the usual fun magical wizard-fighting intrigue and adventure, though I could have done with slightly less of the accidentally transformed rabbit. I love all these characters, though!
