Queen Cimorene and King Mendanbar need Morwen's help to find the missing Enchanted Sword. Mendanbar can't leave the Enchanted Forest without weakening the forest's magic, so it's up to Morwen to recover the stolen sword and lead their friends against the evil Society of Wizards. They team up with Kazul the dragon, Telemain the sorcerer, and an enchanted donkey that used to be a rabbit.
I adore every book in this series! Imaginative setting, quirky characters, and an adventurous plot full of magic and dragons, secrets and intrigue.
It’s just as wonderful re-reading each book as it was the first time.
One of the best things about this particular book in the series is the constant chatter from Morwen's cats. Since she is a witch, she is the only one who can understand what they are saying and they are hilarious!
There is only a tiny bit of minor violence in this book, but you can check out the exact scenes on the Screen It First website. https://screenitfirst.com/book/calling-on-dragons-349489
This book does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, so make sure to have the last book in the series ready to go.

... Ah ah ah. Da morir dal ridere proprio :D

This is always a fun series to re-read! I love this installment - having Morwen as a narrator is a wonderful addition and every one of her cats is extremely entertaining.
I ended up feeling that this was a little sillier than the earlier books in the series, but it's still basically okay. Best part of it is that the dragons are utterly sick of the wizards and have just started eating them, which seems infinitely preferable to banishing them with dish soap and lemon juice. I mean, I'm sure it's fun to see them melt but they reform in a matter of days and go straight back to their destructive ways so really, a permanent solution seems sensible. If you'd only grasped that, Cimorene, this book wouldn't have ended the way that it does, but then I expect you're restricted by the target audience. Your child readers probably aren't up for murder, but like Kazul I'm getting fed up with wizards in this series... it rather feels like the same problem every book. I did like the addition of the talking cats, but Killer the rabbit/flying donkey became very tedious very quickly.
The third book continues the trend of the second in sidelining the previous main character in favor of someone else. As far as main characters go, you could do a lot worse than Morwen. Really, though, all three have been pretty good, I just wish that in shifting the perspective Wrede didn't seemingly feel the need to suck the life out of the old main characters she replaced.
This installment is an improvement over the last, but not substantially so. Killer was a bit much to take, but the extra attention paid to the cats was rewarding enough compensation. I feel like not enough consideration was paid to putting a face and a purpose behind the wizard's actions. We got a new name, but that's about all. The villains were a black box as far as the rest of the book goes, just a little problem to deal with in the final chapters. The adventure in getting there was a little more interesting than in the previous book, I guess. It would take very little to turn this into a satisfying story, but you really feel the parts that are missing.

Accidentally the first book I read in the series; loved it then and loved it now. Morwen is a hoot, but the cliffhanger kills me because I STILL have yet to find the last book!
