I didn't like Morwen's perspective as much as I liked Cimorene's and Mendanbar's from the first two books, but this one still had that Patricia C. Wrede charm!
I did not like Killer, and I did not like the ending, even though it sets up the series finale rather well.
3.5? I think we could have done with like 100 pages fewer of the journey and stuck more to the climax? Bc I knew I remembered morwens cat being scruffed but literally none of the other characters or events of the novel. It doesn’t have the same impact as dealing, and while morwen being the narrator keeps it from dragging on and on like searching, it does still feel like justifying its length to introduce characters it knew needed to be introduced. I like the setup for the final book a lot and it feels more purposeful like dealing was in a way searching just didn’t. Like at all. So I’m hoping the next one delivers and ends the series strong bc this one brought it together at the end in the last like 30 pages or so

Incredibly fun children's book. I listened to the dramatization, and it was very well done. I highly recommend it for any children, people with children, or people who just enjoy a fun silly story.

Probably my favorite of the series so far--I wish Morwen was the protagonist of all the books, I love the shenanigans of her cats so much. Super charming and honestly the only thing I don't enjoy about it (which was so annoying that I knocked off a whole star for it) is that so much time is spent arguing about logistics, re-explaining things, and letting everybody in the huge party get their two cents in, that it delays any plot massively. It was fun in the beginning with all the cats, but once the main action kicks in and the characters should be hurrying, the fact that they sit there bickering and repeating the same patterns of conversation (Telemain is being long-winded and Kazul is annoyed, Killer is hungry and the cats think he's stupid, etc.) is not only irritating, it's actively getting in the way of the story. I seem to recall this being an issue in the last book as well.
This series continues to be 'cute' without having much to offer me beyond that. I would love to read this to kids: I think it would be fun. But I wouldn't read it for myself. Right now I'm reading it because one of my friends told me to!
