Honestly, I need to reread this one. I read it so fast because I had to know what happened, but now I need to go back so I can pay attention to the finer details. It's such a good read with an insane ending. My emotions were all over the place.

Plot is interesting and you do want to know what happens next. That's about it. On one hand this kids are fighting for their lives and having sex left and right, but it is all so dramatic. Her complaining about Andarna's teenage brain when she's not better.  I'll be honest, I simply don't get all the buzz. It's fun and an easy-go-through read but the characters feel flat and the stories repetitive...

better than iron flame, in my opinion.

this book took me over a month to read because the pages are MILES long it feels like. seriously, I would much rather have shorter pages and more of them than longer pages and less of them. but alas, I finished it.

loved the adventure, and it didn't feel rushed like iron flame now that I look back on it. also, that cliffhanger should be illegal.

I cried, too, so any book that makes me cry gets 5 stars.

Rebecca Yarros took the Empyrean series from a booktok romantasy to a serious fantasy world in this book. She took the world building and character development to a depth she had never discovered before and I just cannot wait to dive deeper into everything introduced to us in Onyx Storm.

I agree with others that it is hard to get into it at first, as it involves lots of politics and a ton of characters who each have their own signets. It did get better, but I still had to look things up all throughout the book - however, I'm relatively new to fantasy and English is not my mother tongue, so maybe that made it a bit harder. I really love this series, bit I have to say that I liked this part the least so far. In some parts, the plot was kind of foreseeable, for instance
Talia being Xaden's mother, Xaden fully turning - I hoped it would not happen, but it was not a huge surprise it did - and somehow, I feel like they always come under attack right after a long romantic scene between Violet and Xaden.😂
That being said, it still included some major plot twists and a cliffhanger at the end.
As always, I loved Rebecca Yarros' writing style. The things Xaden says to Violet are so poetic, there were so many quotes I loved, so many funny passages, and the ice metaphor used throughout the book was so creative!
Looking forward to finding out what happened
in the 12 hours Violet was gone and how they got married
!

This is the first book in a very long long time that made me cry. Also, I feel like my brain melted and now it needs to sort itself back together.

The only complaint I had was the first 50-100 pages were too fast. It wouldn't have been as bad if I had the chance to read the first two recently, but I was simply confused. There's a huge cast of characters and many events that happened in the pervious books being referred to without even the simplest context that I was having a hard time following along. They did the same thing with Maas's Cresent City third book too. Like, we don't care about page number. We'd rather have the extra pages of info.

i want to know what happened to broccoli
