I had someone comment on a Facebook reel I posted saying “I felt like I was reading about a bunch of side quests” and that is a surprisingly accurate way to describe the first 75% of the book. I did ultimately finish and in some capacity I eagerly await the next one, but it was a struggle. I hate to say it, but I don’t think I’ll feel the same way I felt reading Fourth Wing through the continuation of the series, and it pains me. 🥺

I don't know how to describe this book other than chaotic. It feels like the equivalent of TikTok brainrot where every scene was written to capitalize on "omg" moments and after the first few they all ran together, leading to a rushed and nonsensical ending. The two main characters have such a problematic relationship I'm not inclined to root for them at all.

I read this specifically to complete the series, only to find out that there will be 2 more books. Guess I'm going to DNF the series.

This is, so far, the best book in the series! I struggle with a bit of word choice and plot development but overall, an amazing read!
