Woah. The second half was really really good. I savoured a slow read of the first half. But couldn’t resist a faster pace reading the rest. The final act is enriching to read with multi pov but some of the last two chapters are hard to read and left with several questions and confusion

I really liked how this book focused on the lore of the world. I loved exploring the different aspects of the lore more than the interpersonal drama of Iron Flame.
The drama in this story felt less like going over trodden grounds and actually involved new perspectives and insights to the characters that we have grown to love. I think Riddock really shined in this book and I loved the character growth that we got to see with him. Rebecca made him more than just the comedic relief character and I appreciate that.
I thought was also really fast paced book and with the island hopping it made it feel like I was flying through the story.
I loved how diverse each island was to one another and how they brought their own characterisations and culture compared to the continent. Cannot wait to see more of it and hope that the next book in the series continues to grow the world and what we know about everyone.

I really enjoy a book that can weave together world building, story telling, and romance eventually and Yarros excells at that very kind of writing. While this book was less romance and more storytelling than Iron Flame and Fourth Wing, I still felt a healthy balance of the 3 aspects throughout the book. I really enjoyed the additional humor sprinkled throughout and loved learning about other rider's dragons in this one. Can't wait for the 4th book!

This one was alright for me. Not stellar, not bad. The writing quality and dialogue really stood out to me in a bad way this time. It didn't really bother me with the first book because it was such a page turner I was willing to overlook the prose and dialogue. This one was missing that addicting quality I miss from the first book though. Even when big plot things were happening, I wasn't feeling invested in them at all. It took well over half the book for me to get really interested. I did enjoy the last half though.
I'm also not loving how in each book there has to be something keeping them apart in order to try and maintain the sexual tension. I was fully uninterested in that aspect of the book. Right now I think I'll continue with the series, but we'll see.

The last half of the book was great! The beginning was slow and failed to hooked me in. I’m glad I pushed through learning all the new characters. There are still some I don’t know 😂. Cliff hanger ending! Great set up for the next book.
