Another Waylon Knockout

I adore just about everything Ilsa writes and this one has just jumped high on that list. I adore the depth and complexity of these characters and how real they feel. Dillon, uhg, he’s just so sweet. Serena is strong but vulnerable. The pacing of the story is fabulous and there is just enough drama without being ridiculous. I don’t know how she does it every time, but she does. You should 100% give this book a chance.

I couldn’t believe when this book arrived on my Kindle, I am so grateful for it. I got to experience this one in a very particular way because this was a new author that I admired so much and wanted so badly to read something that I knew I’d adore. This blew me away because it was way more than I thought.
I Promise You can’t have an easy way to summarize or explain, but I can say that it’s a love story full of all the ingredients to shake your heart.
We follow the sweet and spicy love story of Serena and Dillon. They experienced and encountered something that marked their hearts and their souls. Time flies by and Serena is brought back to his life in order to gain everything she lost but also to learn how second chances can be the best ones.
Dillon’s heart is full of love and Serena is the woman that owns it. But not everything is as easy as it seems because they have to learn how to become a better version of themselves.
Funny, intriguing, worth sobbing, and steamy as lovely, this novel is everything I needed.
I just can tell you that hopefully soon I will get to marathon Ilsa’s books because I Promise You was just incredible.

SpoilerSpoilers
I need to vent all my thoughts but I’d try to be as quick as possible.
I couldn’t tell you how much I was internally screaming when they had the Yoga Class. I’m just speechless. My favorite steamy scene of the whole book. Amazing Ilsa, just amazing.
Then I wanted so badly to hold in my arms both Serena and Dillon because I adored them so much. My heart nearly collapses when I learned the past from Serena, I still need to cry that out. Also Dillon, poor baby, loved her so much and so blindly, he made mistakes trying to avoid her leaving him.
Dillon was so mature and I respected so much how he stepped up when his team needed him and learned that even though you're not the best, you can always help and try harder to achieve your goals. Overall I think both Serena and him got the life they deserved.

I Promise You me dejó picada.

SpoilerSpoilers
[Vive l'amour].

It was okay. Honestly, I thought I would have more feelings and thoughts about this book but that's not the case. I don't know if it was the timeframe in between reading the third book and this one, or if it was because I rarely connect with new adult romance books, but this fell flat for me.

Initially, I was enjoying the start. I was getting the jokes and punchlines, and I was having a good time. But as the book progressed, and I begin to know about Dillon McQueen, I realize he is such a confusing character -- all the facts and scenes that were supposed to bring me clarity about his personality ended up confusing me. There wasn't a track to it that I can follow so I can categorize him either as a good guy or not, whether he's an actual player or not -- he lacks depth, in my opinion.

The story was quite anticlimactic also. Nothing about it really stood out to me. Again, it's still a good book, but I was not a fan of it. I hope that other people who read it will like it more than I did.

Serena and Dillon captured my attention and then my heart!
Serena is quirky, smart, independent, loyal and so lovable!
Dillon puts on an air of cockiness, but he’s actually smart, kind and so sexy.
He has his adorable awkward moments that are so endearing. Especially when it’s mixed in with his put on air of arrogance. Swoon!
He’s also funny and definitely has a strong quirk factor.
Their chemistry and banter are so amusing!

They both are drawn to each other strongly.
Let’s not forget there is a legend and superstition at play here ;) Destiny and fate around a bonfire!
The banter and humor is so much fun! I had so many laughs and chuckles throughout the book.
The quips and banter are on point.
The secondary characters add so much to the story.
They were a very important part of it all and that gave it more depth and fun! I loved them!

Both characters have similar past trauma and similar emotional needs, yet they show it differently.
They can see past each other’s emotional walls.
There’s plenty of emotions and angst to go with the humor.
Both characters grow and overcome fears.
It’s a really well rounded college sports romance.
I loved every word. So satisfying!
Oreo’s and Fat Tire for the win! I love it!

This was my least favorite of the Waylon football player companion books. I liked it, but it didn't feel like there was really much keeping the two together aside from Dillon's obsession with Serena and Serena thinking Dillon was hot. There was a lot of substance that the two could have used to bond over, but it never really seemed like they actually bonded and it was just thrown in instead. I still loved the two of them together, though.

So this book was SO good. Dillon and Serena were great characters! I absolutely loved them both. I really did. Serena was so funny. And Dillon was so sweet and so determined to make Serena fall in love with him. The secondary characters were great too!! Serena’s sister and grandma. They were funny. Her brother, obviously the protective broody type. I loved that Dillon had this memory of Serena and he held on to that memory for years. The chemistry between the H and h was perfect. Just enough steam and just enough tension, the perfect amount of flirting to keep me on the edge of my seat. I honestly wish I could keep reading about them! Ilsa Madden-Mills did such a great job with this story and I can’t wait to read what she writes next!

I am a hot mess after finishing this book. Dillon and Serena made me laugh, made my heart race, and made me cry just to name a few of the emotions that I ran through while reading. Their story was about trust, friendship and the family that you create, not the one that you are born into. Their lives will touch you in the most profound way and certainly make you smile as well.

Both Serena and Dillon are guarded with their hearts, but in very different fashions. They have both loved and lost along the way while building walls around their hearts, but they each have grieved and handled those losses in different ways. When they finally meet up again, not only is the moment hilarious (in the best way Ilsa knows how to make those moments), but she gives us insight into Serena’s quirky personality that has no problem going head to head with Dillon’s football over inflated ego. Their verbal sparring is fantastic!!! Lighting up the page their chemistry is not only funny, but magnetic as they sizzle for one another until the moment they finally give in.

While guarding their hearts as best as they can, they bicker back and forth in the best comedic way possible. It’s almost impossible to stay away, especially when the fates keep pulling them together. Their “dates” are some of the most adorable and creative moments I’ve ever read in which Dillon tries to spend time with Serena, but truly it shows what a soft heart Dillon has not only for Serena, but for the family he has created in his life. You see, he is the one who was bewitched by her at the bonfire and now can’t seem to stay away, and now that he’s found her again he doesn’t want to lose her, but does Serena want to be kept?

Ilsa has a gift for writing big tough sports hero’s with the biggest, gooeyiest centers. It’s nearly impossible to fall head over tush in love with big heart emoji eyes for her heros every single time. I also adore her quirky and sassy heroines. There is something so real about being yourself and connecting with a girl who talks to herself while shopping, yes, I can completely place myself in Serena’s shoes in that scenario.

There is so much to love about this book. I could go on for much longer, but it really comes down to…I Promise You will make you smile, laugh, cry and touch your heart.
