ok hear me out, this is like 3.8/3.9!!!! i liked it a lot, i loved the fighting scenes, the plotting, the world building. loved that. mal got on my mf NERVES!!! i'm a darkling girlie what can i say? im all for alina going to the dark side.

around 60% i was ready for something to happen. it was almost too peaceful of a time that i could feel myself thinking about other things. but that feeling didnt last long (more like 2 ish chapters?)

i cant wait to see how this wraps up so i can start six of crows!! as much as i like this story, i will say i'm not too attached to anyone? the show really did such a good job with the casting and the characters and the flow that i think it really helped me like them even the little bit that i do.

on to ruin & rising

Awesome sequel! I loved the character development, the plot, the new characters, the power-shifts... I could on and on. Nothing is ever how it appears to be in the Grisha world and I spent half the book as paranoid as Alina. I'm so excited to read the final book!

3,5 stars, actually. It was better than Shadow & Bone but nowhere near as good as Six of Crows. Should've read this trilogy first, I guess!

More Mythos and Growth

Alina continues to grow into her power and how to manipulate the collar.

Can't wait to see how the firebird plays into this and the final showdown with the Darkling.

Whilst second books in trilogies are always challenging for me - so much frustrating conflict and miscommunication! - this was gripping and, of course, ended with a bang.

I've seen lots of reviews railing against Mal, but I really felt that both he and Alina were (whilst frustrating) believable in their despair. Fingers crossed for their final chapter!
