This โ€œGen-Xโ€ romance was really good. It was a cute rom-com with older characters (weโ€™re talking 40-50s, not that old!). Good character development by the MCs and great setting and supporting characters. Iโ€™d like to continue this series!

FREAKIN AMAZING!!! Thank you NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op, Pinkity Publishing for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.

HOLY HEAVENS!! I absolutely LOVED this book so much!! What a beautiful and heartfelt wintery rom-com between two middle aged characters. I just need to say, that I loved reading about characters in my age group! "Come As You Are" is a slow burn romance that is about starting over, redemption, healing, loss, friendships, family, hope, courage and a second chance at love. It is filled with angst/tension to die for, hilarious banter, tender moments,  and the cutest dog ever! Once I started reading I couldn't stop and I finished it in a day. This is my first read by Jess Hardy and I am a HUGE fan! Hardy has a way of making the characters feel real and relatable and I was so emotionally invested. Literally everything I could ever want in a romance book!! ALL the feels!!๐Ÿฉตโ„๏ธโ›ท๏ธ๐Ÿ”๏ธ๐Ÿฉต

Ashley Cooke (46 yrs old) is the owner of Bluebird Basin Ski Lodge and is doing her best to keep it afloat. Her horrible ex-husband is trying to buy out the ski lodge from under her but she is determined to save it no matter what! Well dire situations require extreme measures, right!?! When Ashley's overbearing mother, Maude Alice, suggests having the men from the local sober living home come work for the season, Ashley is not sure that is a good idea but financially it makes sense. Hesitantly, Ashley agrees to meet Matthew Madigan, the owner of "Little Timber" sober living home, to hear him out on how and why this could benefit everyone involved. Madigan (53 yrs old) is your sexy former rock star, ex-drug addict and has dedicated himself to helping recovering addicts get back on their feet. He knows that keeping the men busy and working will help them find their self respect and confidence again. Reluctantly, Ashley consents to hire the recovering addicts but cannot help to wonder what is she thinking?? How will this all work out?

Ashley and Madigan have been through so much in life and it was refreshing to see them communicate like mature adults. Glory Hallelujah!! I loved that Madigan was so sweet and vulnerable and was not afraid to share his emotions. They learned to trust each other and themselves. Ashley struggled with feeling invisible and unwanted but was able to get her self confidence back. The secondary characters were fantastic and I just loved Murphy the adorable St. Bernard dog ๐Ÿถ! The amount of personal character growth all the characters went through and their stories just touched my heart๐Ÿฉต. What a sweet reminder that it is never to late to find love or a second chance at life!

Overall, this is the perfect swoon worthy rom-com that will leave you laughing, crying and smiling, The cover is so cute and perfect too! The bonus epilogue was perfection. I cannot recommend this book enough and it deserves a million stars!!๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

This is a great book full of adult characters and deeper situations than you'd expect from your average KU romance.

Ashley Cooke is watching her late father's dreams falter in front of her as the ski hill he loved is barely (if at all) breaking even. Faced with intense pressure from corporate ski operators, she's not sure how she'll last through the season. When her mom hatches a plan to pair up with a local sober living house to employ their residents, Ashley is convinced. That's until she meets the owner of the house, former grunge rocker, Madigan. He convinces her to sign off on the pairing despite her misgivings. It's not long before the men of Madigan's house are fully integrated into life on the hill, and Ashley and Madigan start to see sparks fly.

The book is pitched as a Gen X romance, but as an elder millennial, I loved it all the same. These are adult characters, with adult problems, who are often trying their best to get through less-than-ideal situations. In particular, the relationship between Ashley and her mom is a pretty perfect encapsulation of how adult daughters (of the Gen X/elder millennial variety) struggle to connect with and overcome their frustrations with Baby Boomer parents. The broader cast of characters all have their own stories that are certainly going to be exciting to explore as the series continues.

Though there is plenty of spice throughout, there's a lot of heart, as well!

This was a rainy Sunday read for me and I really enjoyed it! My first read by this author and was recommended by the Fated Mates Podcast. The main characters are older mid-40s FMC and early-50s MMC. Finding that I like these second chance romances (surely it's because I'm getting older).

I would like a Madigan please

Also this book made Bluebird Basin seem so charming, I almost want to go on a ski vacation again. (A note to any of my relatives I said ALMOST!)
