Surprising and fluttery gen X romance
I read a lot of difference kinds of romance, but what is severely lacking is over 40 romance that feels a little more real than most. There’s no accent on someone with silver hair (not hating on silver foxes, but not all of us are gray). Or even one person WAY under 40 (again, if that’s your age gap trope, have at it… away from me).
I think what I really enjoyed about Ashley and Madigan’s romance is that they lived a full on life before each other and it wasn’t pretty. Ashley has an ex and a young adult daughter. Madigan is a former addict and rock star.
I’ll be up front, I really disliked the ex. He did the job of being someone with the ick. And the overbearing mom of Ashley was a lot as well. Though it did show a lot of how grief can impact a family and also how similar grief is with people in recovery as well. There’s a feeling of loss and a feeling of not being deserving of things.
While heavy subjects, I think the author wrote well around them. It didn’t fall into despair, but it did make for some instances where communication was key.
The love story itself was really nice. Ashley and Madigan fit well together and it shows. I liked that people saw that.
Extra points for the mixtape including Digable Planets.

"We're all afraid of letting people in because we might end up letting them down."
Okay first of all it was really hard reading a winter book in summer with honestly melting temperatures! But I requested the ARC so that's on me lol (thanks netgalley!)
Nevertheless, this was such a good read. The topic covered, the entire idea and the story were interesting and very well executed. Also they are both middle aged (he is over 50 and she is in her late 40s), they have both lived lives and went through so much just to find each other in the end. Loved that! I wanted to say I am tired of reading about college kids but oops my next read is that but this was so refreshing okay! What is also refreshing is the men who came to work on her ski hill are all recovering addicts. That entire aspect was also handled so well and while we don't know a lot about the rest of the guys I cannot wait to see them get their HEA. The found family aspect and the glimpses of couples to come make me look forward to the rest of the series. Everything about this book felt so realistic and while I needed a little bit of something to make it 5 stars, I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend this one!

This book felt like a spicy Hallmark Christmas movie. Set at a failing ski resort
I appreciated main characters that aren't in their 20's. I also enjoyed the dynamics between Madigan and the men from his sober living home.
Some of the dialogue was a little cheesy. Some of the interactions between Ashley and Madigan didn't feel authentic.
In the end, this was a good book with an overall enjoyable story.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

“Before you leave me, I have to kiss you. A real kiss. I’ll die if I don’t.”
Tropes:
~forced proximity
~winter setting
~divorced heroine who has a college-aged daughter
~hero who is in recovery from substance abuse
~ex-rockstar, tattooed hero
~older couple (hero is 53 and heroine is 46)
~an adorable Saint Bernard sidekick
This book was such a breath of fresh air! I appreciated that we had older characters who have been through a lot and, while more emotionally mature in some ways than a younger couple might be, they also still had insecurities and communication issues that they needed to work on. And they DID work on their communication and insecurities throughout the book, rather than constantly making incorrect assumptions.
The slow burn build-up of tension was also fantastic, and the steamy scenes were made even better because of that emotional buildup. I will definitely be checking out this author again!

This book is gold! Ashley and Madigan are everything! All the nostalgia and reading a RomCom about people my age is something I didn’t know I wanted or needed!
Loved these Gen X characters (late 40s-early 50s) and the real portrayal of fear and relationship patterns. They were so soft with each other - just really lovely.
