Who doesn’t love a small town age gap romance? The chemistry between the main characters was impeccable and the spice was steamy 🥵
The banter throughout the book had me laughing out loud and smiling constantly. I truly hope there will be more to this series soon to get to know Madigan’s men better! Thank you @netgalley for the chance to read this book.
“All the stars in the sky shine dim, compared to you” -Mad Madigan 🤤

Since this is billed prominently as a Gen X romance, let’s get that out of the way first. As a card-carrying Xennial (THE FORGOTTEN MICRO-GENERATION), I was totally into the heroine being more or less my age (she’s 46) and the hero being 53 — yet they are still super horny for each other. (Yes, younglings: middle-aged folks still have sex!)
Contemporary romances are often hard for me to get into because everyone acts like they’re still teenagers. Here, there is still plenty of angst, but it felt age-appropriate.
This dealt with some heavy subjects — addiction, a toxic ex, financial difficulties — but it still felt light and breezy and was a page-turner. There was a lot going on in terms of plot, but it never felt chaotic.
My only real criticism was that the villain (Ashley’s ex husband) felt a little mustache-twirly. Given the very real challenges presented in this book, it felt a little tonally off. I would have liked him to have more depth given the large role he played in the plot.
If nothing else, read this for the rocking chair sex! And all the other hot sex. Hot, hot sex. I am ecstatic for Ashley that she has found herself a certified sexpert. 🔥🔥🔥

Third person Dual pov.
When Ashley needs to save her ski hill from her cheating ex husband, she hires a group of men from the sober living home Little Timber, led by former rock star Mad Madigan, to help cut costs.
This is my first book by Jess Hardy and it definitely won't be my last. I loved every single character (not Chuck), including Murphy, the needy St Bernard. It was refreshing to read older characters (40s and 50s) and to learn about the men that stay at Little Timber. I'm really looking forward to reading more in this series!

Oh no, Ashley's going to have to sell her family's mom 'n pop ski resort to Big Evil MegaSki conglomocorp (represented by her shithead of an ex-husband, who <i>of course</i> wears his collars popped) if she can't make it through the season. Enter hot former grunge rocker Madigan and the men of his sober living house who need jobs, direction, and purpose. Only half of them can ski, but there's other jobs that need doing, right? Add in Ashley's mom whose solution to things is to take out more credit cards and spend, and Ashley's daughter who comes home from college unexpectedly. Together, can this ragtag band of misfits save <s>Party</s> Sober Mountain?
Sweet 'n spicy romance between two grownass adults who have lived their lives and come out a little bruised and gunshy and not looking for love.

Firstly, I need to get this off my chest, I found it incredibly annoying that Ashley’s mum was constantly referred to as Maude Alice, not mum, Maude Alice.
Now that’s out of the way, Come as You Are was an enjoyable read. I really loved Little Timber, and Madigan’s work with his men was a beautiful story, and I would gladly read more books about the men that arrive there and how their new lives unfold.
I loved this aspect; I also really enjoyed the skiing and the book's setting; what I didn’t get on with was Ashely or her mother, Maude Alice, and sometime Madigan. All these characters are supposed to be in their 40s plus but didn’t read that way, they seemed a lot more immature. Ashley and her mother didn’t have a good relationship and were just awful towards each other, and I didn’t like the instalove that happened between Ashley and Madigan.
A good book, but not great. It was and easy and enjoyable read, I just wanted more from it.
