Overall it was a good, easy, quick read. I enjoyed the case thoroughly, and the mystery was I think the strongest part of the story. I definitely was surprised by the culprit, although it does make sense after the fact. I think that the romance feels genuine (although I could have done with a little more spice and a little less self doubt and making decisions for each other, although I guess that is the point). I liked a lot of the side characters, although would have preferred even more of them as well.

i liked how the mystery was layered and engaging too- it wasn't just a romance book with a crime background, it was well balanced
i love little anxious jack and charming abandoment issues rav

This book was such a surprise for me—in the best way! I typically don’t read romance, and I really don’t go for books with spicy content. When I requested this from NetGalley, I was drawn in by the synopsis and totally forgot to check for spice warnings... oops! 😅 But honestly? It turned out okay. Yes, there’s spice—but it made sense within the story and wasn’t overwhelming or gratuitous.

What I Liked:
  • I absolutely loved the main characters, Rav and Jack. Their budding romance was adorable and genuinely enjoyable to read. Both had well-developed backstories and personalities that felt authentic.
  • The mystery aspect added a fun layer to the story. The author kept me guessing with twists and turns that felt fresh.
  • Most importantly, the story felt balanced—between romance, spice, and mystery, nothing overpowered the other. It all worked together seamlessly.

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for my ARC! My thoughts are my own.

What a great way to start Pride Month! It took me a while to finish simply because of life. But I absolutely love Rav and Jack. An edgy rock star and a rebellious English cop? A murder mystery that keeps getting more complicated? 10/10. While the book has no spice, the plot more than makes up for it and Erin Dunn did a fantastic job of covering their tracks in the story. Thank you NetGalley!

I enjoyed this book overall, and found it to be lighthearted despite dealing with a murder investigation. It started out strong, diving right into action, but there were some pacing issues and things slowed down around halfway through. I loved Rav's character the most. He was a refreshing take on a detective. I struggled to connect with Jack, but it's very possible that is just because he was a suspect in the investigation.

More than anything, this is a mystery with a hint of romance. Rav and Jack were cute together, with an instant connection and shared some sweet moments. The mystery was interesting and definitely held my interest more than the romance. I also enjoyed the pop culture references, sprinkled throughout.

I listened to the audio which was well done. The narrator, Sid Sagar, brought Rav's character to life while also giving other characters distinct accents.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio for the advance copy!

I enjoyed the mix of romance and mystery in this book! I felt that the chemistry and pace of the relationship between Jack and Rav was well done, and the interspersed bits of the investigation in between was great. Both Jack and Rav were well written characters, and the author really makes you love both of them. The mystery side of things had a lot of twists and turns and it took me a while admittedly to figure out who the culprit was. However, it did feel like it was a big dragged out in the end and that it could have been shortened a bit. Sometimes it felt like the mystery was extended more and more just so we could have more time for the relationship to develop between Jack and Rav.
