He's to Die For

This is a mystery rom/com heavy emphasis on the romance. I personally wasn’t thrilled with the mystery reveal. I didn’t feel like you as a reader really had a chance to figure it out. It had to be spelled out. A lot of things felt like unnecessary details. As far as a mystery book goes? 3.0 stars. It’s fine.

Rom/com? 3.5. While the story was a little boring to me, I can’t lie: I was squealing over Rav and Jack being an adorable couple and going back and forth. I’d be so happy to see them again in another book or series. Very cute. Very precious.

Overall, it’s a cute summer read. I recommend it for a good, fun read. The book goes by pretty quickly too.

A very straightforward romance, which is what I needed.

There isn’t a lot of depth to this story. There seems to be an attempt at Mental Health or Anxiety being a “plus” element but it wasn’t significant enough to be the main theme of the store. So it really was a standard celeb/rockstar type romance. The mystery element did add a bit though which was a nice change of pace. Added needed tension.

I’ve been craving good gay romances as I feel like some of the art of them has faded. I miss the days of The Charm Offensive and Red, White, and Royal Blue. And although this one wasn’t up to the level of those, this one was perfectly sufficient for the niche.

I loved the investigative part of this book and how it helped bring these two characters together. The beginning gives off forbidden romance vibes but they essentially keep it under wraps for a good amount of time... which added a bit of tension and made for some good flirting moments. Overall, I enjoyed how the mystery unfolded and how Rav and Jack evolved in their relationship. I highly recommend this book for fans of romantic suspense, protective heros, and murder mysteries.

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own and offered voluntarily.

He's to Die For follows NYPD detective Rav as he takes lead on his first investigation on homicide: the death of a well hated music executive.
The prime suspect?
The lead singer of a group whose music said executive is keeping hostage.
In a mix between romance and thriller, Dunn has us cheering for Jack and Rav to get together from the first chapter. If you're a fan of witty banter and detective mysteries this one is for you.
However, if you're at all interested in accuracy regarding police matters maybe look the other way.
Special shout-out to the author including quibs about the ethicality of private jets and carbon footprints of the rich, it was a really nice touch.
