LOVE the art style. This was a cute, queer love story appropriate for middle and high school readers. The bonus 90s fashion was a fun addition.

I liked the premise of this, but it lacked plot and character development. I hope this is just a case of the author getting a feel for everything in the first book and in anymore she feels she has a good grasp of the story and characters she wants to tell.

Okay so Sophia & Whitney go from "oh hi" to "I love you" pretty fast but then again my wife and I said ily 2 weeks after we met so look who's talkin 🤷🏼‍♀️
Anyway
This is a super cute and fun graphic novel full of first love, ghosts, queerness, and family dynamics. Perfect as a quick read when you just want a bit of magic and something to put you in a good mood.

Confusing and boring, but I also don't like ghost/human romances.

Contains cute ghost girl kisses but the story goes by so fast there's no genuine development in the relationships. The panels are kind of all of the place too. I am intrigued about the mystery ghost business that split up the family though so I might just be bothered to read the next one.

It was a very fast-paced start to the series. I understand that the limitations of the format are in part responsible for the rushed pacing of both the budding romance and the mystery, but I did find them both interesting anyway and I think it works just fine for the younger audience it's aiming for.

It's really nice to see a wholesome queer relationship and characters that kids can look to and maybe see themselves in! Bonus points for the main conflict being about a family coping with the effects of divorce. It's good to see that topic integrated seamlessly into gripping stories that kids are naturally drawn to because it's such an important subject to discuss and this is a wonderful gateway - especially for kids who may be experiencing a similar situation and looking to examples in media for assistance with coping, or for kids who might have friends going through this and want to understand on some level what their friends are feeling.
