this was a bit slow for me, there's like a lot of murders going on but its not focusing on the how they figure out who's the murderer, it talks more about the sleight of hand and more about audrey rose having a problem on which boy to choose and mull over so this book was kinda hard for me to tap into

I enjoyed this, like I have the rest of the series. It was a little long, considering it took me almost a week to read, but it was good. Probably my second favorite in the series. I still love the writing and everything about these books, they’re just too good.

There was a love triangle in this, which I’m not sure how I feel about it. And there was not much of Thomas honestly, which I didn’t like that of course. But the other love interest was really intriguing and he was hot, so. But the ending was really good. 4 stars

Despite of my frustration, this story did not disappoint. Also, I was right about who was the murderer. And Thomas, as always, my heart is only yours <3

I still enjoyed the book but the plot got a little away from me, it seemed to just be a body drop scenario with no hope of resolution before getting off that boat. A pre-cruise cruise puts on a show every night and absolutely refuses to call it off despite every indication the carnival is involved. It’s a rare case of me being more than happy with the resolution and not so much how we got there.

The ‘love triangle’ (which was really vague interest if anything) didn’t bother me because I’m over 30 and marriage sounds suffocating, she’s 17 and gets to think about joining a carnival for a week. Shame about the sacrifice of Thomas’ sanity though and the overall character of the non-competition being a bit predictable.

I think after just finishing Caraval a month ago, I was feening for more Carnival feels. So when while on this luxury liner, Audrey & Thomas have to solve murders that are happening around the Midnight Carnival, I got really excited!

We get a bit of a love triangle going with the owner of the circus, who at first asks Audrey to go undercover to help solve the case. To do that, she has to pretend to be having a tryst with him… unbeknownst to Thomas. The one caveat is that Thomas has to know nothing. She can not tell him it’s fake at all.

There is a lot of DRAMA because of that, which I don’t feel has been dealt with as of yet, so we’ll have to see what happens in the last book.

While I love SJTR and HPD there was something about this book that didn't quite capture my attention as much. I think it was just a little too drawn out for me. There was a lot going on between the murders and the conflict between characters, which I liked, but to get to the ending felt like it took a long time. I still throughly enjoyed reading this and still love Thomas but I found myself liking Mephistopheles more than I care to admit!

I'm not quite sure this is a 4, but it's definitely not a 3 because I quite enjoyed it despite its shortcomings, so 4 it is.

I had the murderer figured out pretty early--suspicious from the moment we met them--but I still enjoyed the investigation and reveal. I dont love Kerri Maniscalco's style or Audrey Rose's voice, but it's fine. Sure, I'd do it differently and prefer something a little more show than tell, but it didn't keep me from enjoying this book.

Audrey Rose annoyed me more in this book than the first two. She just, ugh. She ignores all the facts until the very end, when she had all the knowledge to solve the murder so early on. Maybe if she hadn't been so obsessed with Thomas... sigh. At the beginning she's all "I could never love anyone but Thomas Cresswell! He's my life and soul forever and ever!" I had to keep reminding myself they're teenagers. That being said, although I still didn't love her at the end, she definitely grew somewhat.

My favorite aspects: the horrific but super interesting method of displaying the murders as tarot cards; Mephistopholes; the circus as a whole; Mephistopholes. Yes, Mephisto was the best part of this book, and I wish his real name was as cool as his fake one. I need more of him. Now.
