I will not lie I didn't read or know anything about the book. I picked it up because a buzz word said food. it was a interesting story, a few times it was a little dull but nothing that didn't go away real fast.

Short synopsis: When Hanalei’s father uses the mystical Dragon Egg to save her life, she’s forced into exile. Now, she can sense the dragons and helps to find and save the eggs.

My thoughts: This was a fun YA fantasy with Dragons, Pacific Islander mythology, special companions, pirates, and saving the princess. It was an easy read with minimal world-building.

A lot of it reminded me of the Disney Movie Moana! I felt like I got a great understanding of the culture, and the stories.

The tattoo animals were so fun, and the fact that they could move and assist their owner was even better.

Read if you love:
  • Cultural myths
  • Pirates and dragons
  • Romance subplot
  • Childhood friends turned second chance romance
  • Adventure
