One of my favorite memories as a kid is spending winter weekends watching old Doris Day/Rock Hudson movies on tv. If I had to pick a feel for this book it would be Doris and probably James Garner instead of Rock but it's that kind of romp. I have to be in the mood for that type of story but when I am it really works for me. I loved Missy, who just wanted to have adventures to write home about. Contrary to news coverage many people leave their homes, move away, have no plan and don't have anything horrifying happen to them. Zane is a buttoned up bounty hunter who, of course, can't help but be drawn to Missy's zest for life. In a more cynical mood, this book might have bugged me. But I just went with the romp, pictured 60s era Doris & Jim as the leads and went with it. Once I did that, it was great fun.
